worked when i took it out...how is it possible that a youtube video embed messes up IE?

It was not youtube messing up. The problem was the former <object> tag attributes. IE could not get far enough to even fetch anything from youtube.

For flash stuff the <object> tag exists Only to support IE and its [choose explative] ActiveX crud. All other browsers ignore that and instead use the <embed> portion.
