| [ Bright House] Higher speed than provisioning?
I just noticed this morning that my internet speed test results were higher than the provisioning on my modem. I'm provisioned for 20 Mbps down and 2 Mbps up.
When I ran several speed tests, I was getting in the range of 22 - 23 Mbps. On one result, I got 29 Mbps! I even reset my modem, router, and PC in between tests to see if it would remain the same.
Another strange thing happened: At one point, I logged into the modem status page in my browser and the download bit rate (normally set to 20496384 bits/sec) was set to 48xxxxxx bits/sec and the upload was 10xxxxxx bits/sec. When I went over to the modem, I noticed every light was blinking simultaneously -- something I've never seen before. Yet, my connectionw was working just fine.
Eventually, I reset the modem, pulled the battery and power, and rebooted everything. After that, the modem went back to its 20/2 bit rate. But oddly, I can still speed test above 20 Mbps for the download. Upload is still coming back at about 1.6 - 1.7 Mbps which is how it always responded.
Any ideas what the "all blinking" lights meant? I couldn't find that scenario in the user guide in the Webstar/Sci Atlanta user guide (WebSTAR DPX2203 modem).
Also, does it make sense that I'd get higher test results than the rate provisioned in the modem? In the past, I've always tested at 17-19 Mbps down consistently using the same test.
Thanks! |

@rr.com | How do you view the provisioing? when I login to my Sci. Atlanta everything but the main page is "blocked by my cable provider" and can't see anything

2 edits | I guess the provider just enables different pages. Mine has several pages as shown in the attached image file (see menu buttons at top). The page I show in this image is the one with the provisioning. I think it's the Signal page.
I think you can also dump your DOCSIS compatible cable modem using a diagnostic tool like DocsDiag. I used this tool a while ago to view a different cable modem that I had at my last house (also used for BrightHouse RR service). From the screenshots on the page linked above, it looks like it will show the max down/up speeds you are provisioned for. |
