NAV 2009 Updated

NAV 2009 auto-updated to v.16.2.0.7 on my system.

Haven't yet tracked down what changes have taken place.

There was this agonizingly vague announcement about this in the Norton Forums that I ran across earlier this evening.

Congratulations on being one of the first to get this. Now if we only knew what this patch does...

Got it here too.

Edit: Maybe it's partly an Ohio thing! Symantec using Ohio as their guinea pigs.

All three of my systems picked this up Thursday evening, so far I haven't noticed any differences.

Both PCs here with NAV 2009 have the update. One by Friday, the other by Saturday (could have been Friday, too, didn't get a chance to look).

As for what's new and improved, no idea. No visible difference.

I am in Beaverton, Or and have not seen the update yet--wonder why it is taking so long?

With a whole lot of PCs out there to push out what is likely a large update, I suppose they are taking it slowly... There's not much info on the Symantec forum on a timeframe, either. How long to update everyone would be nice to know.

I am using NIS09 here in Eastern North Carolina. Mine has updated to version 16.2.0.7.

I get the impression from this thread that Norton doesn't have any specific location/or policy where program modifications are announced/shared with users in a timely manner, which surprises me.

Is the impression valid?

A sticky post was made by Symantec on their forum, saying:

quote:
Hello all,

An update has been released for Norton Internet Security. Just like the last patch, we're using new technology. Because of this, we are distributing this patch in a more controlled manner. Some of you may not receive the update as quickly as others. We will post another announcement shortly when deployment is more widespread. In the meanwhile, your patience is appreciated while the patch continues to be distributed.

Cheers,

So, they did announce it, but are a tad skimpy on the details, at least for now.

So, their forum, like many others, is their primary information vehicle. That's good. I wasn't sure that was the case, thanks.

Can't say for sure but my power options turning off my monitor became intermittent after either this update or WU or both.

I've been playing with them since; last thing I did was to save the power scheme with a new name.

Though I've terminated my 90 day NIS2009 trial prematurely, I was impressed enough to begin recommending/installing it (and NAV2009) to/for folks (not for many years have I found myself in that position). So, I remain very interested in it's continued progress.

I need to spend some forum time, whenever that time presents itself.

At long last, there is a statement on the Norton Forums giving the details on the NIS 16.2 patch:

quote:
Norton Internet Security 2009/Norton AntiVirus 2009 16.2.0.7 update is available!

Hello Everyone,

We have just released a patch for Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton AntiVirus 2009.

To download the patch, simply run LiveUpdate and the patch will be downloaded.

If the patch doesn't download, then it may have already been downloaded through Automatic LiveUpdate. If this is the case, then all you will need to do is reboot your computer.

To verify that you have the patch, simply launch your Norton product, click on Help & Support, then click About. If the version number is 16.2.0.7, then you have the patch.

The 16.2 patch contains many changes and fixes for the 2009 products that some customers were seeing. These changes and fixes include the following:

- Changes to allow future LiveUpdates better handle error conditions.

- Fixed an issue with 64-bit LiveUpdate patches.

- Fixed several Winqual reported errors.

- Fixed a compatibility issue with Microsoft Outlook Connector after installation of Norton Add-On Pack.

- Fixed an issue where the product would sometimes interfere with its own ability to match IDS signatures properly.

(the following issues were also fixed in the 16.1 patch)

- Fixed issue where Protection updates download but date does not change.
- Fixed issue where in some cases, if you looked at the details of which updates succeeded and which failed, it would show all updates failed even though only one update failed.
- Fixed issue where Virus Definitions were considered non-valid in certain scenarios.
- Fixed instance where Advanced Protection will fail to start.
- Fixed issue where LiveUpdate fails to download and apply Web Protection definitions.
- Fixed issue with Identity Safe showing garbled characters in a few areas of the User Interface.
- Fixed multiple instances of ccSvcHst.exe crashes caused by components.
- Fixed issue with ccSvcHst failing to shutdown on a reboot (End Task dialog displayed indefinitely).

Thank you for your patience while we developed and tested this patch!

Cheers,
