This release works for the new Proxomitron Naoko 4.1. Please don't use previous versions with this new Naoko release.
##########Changelog:
Zhen-Xjell Configuration Files Changelog for use by Scott R. Lemmon's Proxomitron.
[2002.01.05] - Release 2.50 Beta
- Proxomitron Naoko 4.1 Released by the author today, ZXList as of this release is made to run for Naoko 4.1. Please don't use previous ZXList versions for 4.1.
- Online Naoko 4.1 with authorization from Scott are published here: »laudanski.com/proxomitron/help4_···nts.html and »laudanski.com/proxomitron/docs4_1 .
- This page »laudanski.com/proxomitron/index.shtml reflects an old ZXList, but is still pretty useful. I'll be updating current filters there to 2.50 and add the rest in as well.
- Upgraded web filter "Multi URL Untangler" to "Multi URL Untangler vr. 2"
- Made replacement changes to $URL as per Scott's post: »groups.yahoo.com/group/prox-list···age/8895 .
- Thanks to someone named "n", the following filters were removed: "Prevent Crash IE5 (Neonbunny)", "Prevent Crash IE5 (img SRC="file://c:*")", "Banish IE5 Warning Boxes (Object1)", "Banish IE5 Warning Boxes (Object2)", "Banish IE5 Warning Boxes (Applet1)", "Banish IE5 Warning Boxes (Applet2)" and "Marquee Stopper". These were replaced with new web filters: "IE5/Opera Exploit (IMG SRC)", "IE5 Exploit (FORM Big Size Input)" and "Disable Applet/Object/Marquee". Cleaned up some header filters: "ETag: Delete (in)", "Pragma: Delete (in)" and "Vary: delete (in)". Some new header and web filters: "Content-Disposition: Help fix IE5 header spoofing (in)", "Google Cached Header Remover" and "Kill page transitions in IE". Some notes from "n":
##The Google filter removes the "this page is cached" header when a cached link is ##clicked in the Google search results, making the page cleaner.
##The page transition filter stops the fading in/out "special effect" when entering ##and exiting some pages in IE5.
##The Open Links in Same Window may help those using a trackball since it eliminates ##the need to move the ball to close the new window.
##The content-disposition filter may help those using IE5, for which Microsoft will ##not support to release a patch for recent header-spoofing exploit.
The header filters that were "cleaned" were done so b/c of:
###These filters are to aid caching and only need to be inbound####
- After some talk on the boards and suggestions from many, I removed the lady bug from the Block Web Bugs web filter. It is using the clear.gif file now, which makes the pages look clean. Also added clear.gif in the html subdir.
- Web filter "Bypass redirects in links" was modified to replace the image with . The code for the image is still there in case you want that instead. This suggested by altosax.
- Added web filter "50megs Ads" by altosax.
- After suggestions from altosax, I agreed and removed the web filters "YYMMDD-Appended to Title" and "YYMMDD" which I didn't have turned on anyhow.
- Per altosax, moved "replace advertisement img links" just after the SUPER-OPENER set of web filters. This way if a banner had the alt attribute, the lozenge won't be added.
- Thanks to altosax, a new web filter called "HotMail Login - Italian users only" was added with the attached "hotmail_it.htm" which gets placed into the html subdir. Enable this if you are using the Italian Hotmail.
- Again per altosax, updated "[DRJ] Convert email text into html links (1.0)" to "Convert email text into html links (2.0)". Also upgraded "[DRJ] Convert URL text into html links (1.0)" to "Convert URL text into html links (2.0)".
- Per altosax, changed "Convert email text into html links (2.0)" to "Convert email text into html links (2.2)" and did the same for Convert URL text into html links (2.2).
- There was a bug in the "Hotmail Login" filter that had an extra "\" in the URL Match. Resolved.
- Fixed a bug in "Hotmail Logout Redirect Killer".
- Added new "Hotmail 503 Error" web filter.
- Fixed bugs in the web filters: "Hotmail Toolbar Extras Killer" and Hotmail Logo Killer" and "Hotmail Searchbox Killer" and "Hotmail Services Killer".
- Updated "Hotmail News Killer" web filter.
- Fixed bug in "Hotmail Explore MSN Sidebar Killer" and "Hotmail link de-redirector" and "Hotmail Remaining Trash Killer (only use with other filters)".
- Hotmail bugs were found with the help of phoenix111972. phoenix111972 provided to me the correct filters which I compared.
- Altosax observed that "Kill Images.txt" was left out from my ZXList. I added it, which goes into "lists" subdir.
- Per altosax, I checked out the multiple "View Webpage Comments" filters. I removed the first one from ZXList (there were three including one from Greg).
[2001.12.28]
- Added the following to the "URL Alias List Addition.txt" file found in the "lists" subdir:
# Google Catalog
searchcata/\1 & $JUMP(http://catalogs.google.com/catalogs?q=\1)
# Google Images (1st one mature content on, 2nd one mature content off)
searchimg(.(cs|da|nl|en|et|fi|fr|de|el|iw|hu|is|it|ja|ko|lv |lt|no|pl|pt|ro|ru|es|sv)\0$SET(2=&hl=\0)|)/\1 & $JUMP(http://images.google.com/images?q=\1\2) searchimgm(.(cs|da|nl|en|et|fi|fr|de|el|iw|hu|is|it|ja|ko|lv |lt|no|pl|pt|ro|ru|es|sv)\0$SET(2=&hl=\0)|)/\1 & $JUMP(http://images.google.com/images?q=\1&num=20&svnum=10\2&imgsafe=off)
- Within the same blockfile as above under the DSL Reports section add this:
# DSL Reports Topic Search
dslrsearch/\1/\2 & $JUMP(http://www.dslreports.com/topicsearch/\1/\2)
Example of usage:
.dslrsearch/security,1/zxlist
Mind, the "/" character is used to isolate the values. ".dslrsearch" is used by Proxo to search DSL Reports. The next value of the first "/" tells Proxo which forum to search. Using this setup, you need to know the name, for example some forum names:
security,1 folding seti
The value after the second "/" is the topic you wish to search on. Hence our example above would search for topics "zxlist" in the Security Forum.
The URL equivalent would look like this:
http://www.dslreports.com/topicsearch/security,1/zxlist
- Changed "am7.netfirms.com/nf-images/" to "*.netfirms.com/nf-images/" in ZXList.txt.

 | just wondering does anyone have trouble seeing hardocp.com properly using zhen-xjell's filters? |

| reply to Zhen-Xjell I just checked that site and that problem is noted. Zhen has already been informed of that filter on the upper left hand corner, it is related to Flash "swiff", and he is working on it.
I had just attempted to bypass the flash ads by placing it in my bypass flash list, and although the visual coding goes away the site doesn't finish it's load. I am thinking that it is something to do with a reference in the AdPaths list or AdDomains list.?
Thanks for reminding me? [text was edited by author 2002-01-06 11:58:57] |

sigPremium join:2001-05-05 | reply to Zhen-Xjell Just a note: the "Open Links in Same Window" filter overrides the "Links-Beta 34i-Super-Opener" filter. With the Super, links are set so that if you click the last two characters in the link it will open in another window. For those who like that feature (as I do) make sure the "Open in Same Window" filter is unchecked. |

| reply to Zhen-Xjell I'm browsing this page right now with the default ZX 2.50 beta set..... About the "Open in new window" when clicking the last 2 chars, forget it, it ain't working, just like all the rest of the filters.... It's only good for slowing your browsing down and adding .... everywhere in the page.

Wow...Slowdown there pardner. I am just a wee bit curious with a post like that.
Have you ever used Proxomitron before? Is it installed correctly? Why did you change the filter set, what problems were you having?
There are many Proxomitron users both on and off the site that use Zhen-Xjell's default sets including members of the few Proxo boards that are now found on the net. Yes, and even the beginner has good results, if not there are always others here on this board that are willing to take the time out to assist. The only time I hear or concerns with the problems that you had mentioned on a new release is if the user just either just don't understand how to use proxo, or it trying to run it on a bad install.
If you may can you please expound a little more on what exactly is going on between you and Proxomitron. And please keep all profanity from the post.
Here are the Hard Rules of Posting.
Thank you,
-cj.- _________

- Hey Zhen - since your suggestions last night (above) I've been playing with the settings, and you're right ... the IM trick is good! And BTW, it works perfectly for me - but then I took the time to explore it a little, and made the settings I wanted. Once again, thanks for the enhancements - and the humor: Address: None of your business |

Re: Proxomitron Zhen-Xjell Default.CFG 2.50 Beta Well, to be honest, I'm a happy Proxomitron user for more than a year now. The human nature of trying out new things made me create a second proxomitron folder, install the original Proxomitron Naoki 4.1 in there, and then overwriting the filters from the ZX 2.50beta zip-file (which is extremely well protected btw Now if only the filters would do what they say everything would be perfect.
Unfortunatelly, the filterpack comes with numerous filters which are applied by default, and have the only effect of making your webpage sourcefiles bigger. That's not a good point, I though Proxomitron was there to just do the opposite.
Using the bare defaults in the 2.50beta, I've tried surfing around as usual.... My findings :
* No speed increase, quite contrary..
* Links mangled, while the intensions of the filters (to open links in a new window, as 1 example) do actually NOT work.
* Simple javascript menu's do not work as intended.
* Page layout gets mangled, making professionally designed pages look like cheap geocities.lamers/ homepages.
* Images get trashed because the filters THINK they are banners.
* By default cookies are killed..... That's good for sex-site surfers but not for the average clearminded people that use the internet for more practical reasons.
* Original pages without any adds/lame javascripts/webbugs/etc..... are sized up from 1 kb to 12 kb. Don't think this will make your browsing experience more stable nor attractive....
* Font sizes get screwed.
* Added junk by some filters make pages completely non-usable/non-responsive...
etc...etc...
Why not stick with the basics..... and add what's REALLY needed instead of creating a junkyard ? |

Personal preference, that is what this is about. I leave the filters in there that I think have the most impact for myself and others. I, like others, provide a filter set that people use.
How about you start a filter set and distribute it on your own? Perhaps I can learn a thing or two. |

You tell him Zhen. I cannot do what you do, in regards to putting together a filter set. I've used Proxo since being introduced to it by you some time ago. And you have been more than kind and helpful in resolving my little problems. Maybe if Buffalo would step back and think before engaging brain and keyboard, he would be likely to get help instead of being snubbed, at his own expense.
Keep up the good work Zhen. I stand with and support you in this effort. -- Find ET and Save a Life. [text was edited by author 2002-01-07 18:47:11] |

- Have you taken a few minutes to look at the filters, and set them the way you want them? As you said, there are filters that are applied by default - but you have the option of changing most of them. There are new options that you can edit for your preferences --- or not. The 'open in new page' option absolutely DOES work - but you might have to just deselect 'open in same page' first. Not really a big deal. In the long run, I guess Proxo is worth exactly what you paid for it. If there are bugs, ZX has a pretty good record of jumping on them. OTOH, if it's not for you, there are other options out there. |

Re: Proxomitron Zhen-Xjell Default.CFG 2.50 Beta Zhen Xjell,
Only thing I would like the say to you is that I really understand that you are spending a whole lot of time creating these filters, and many many users are very happy with them.
To be honest, I don't have the knowledge that you have about the Proxo-languange, some filters are really incredible, but the fault is not yours, it's the fact that there are tons of ways to create a website, and the layout of it, or getting a special function done.
I appreciate your filters the way, they are, I give negative comments because these are just needed to be able to improve things even further. My first impressions notices where those of 1 full day surfing to sites I visit regularly, I know how responsive they usually are, the look of them, etc...etc... I just stated that a lot of them don't work now, layout is worse, and looking at the source-site, they are bigger, yet they don't load as fast as before....
The whole is idea is brilliant, there's just a lot of improvements to be done.
So, Sorry for sounding so negative and rude, It was a reaction of a first-day experience. |

Zhen-XjellProlific BunnyPremium,VIP,ExMod 2001-04 join:2000-10-08 Bordentown, NJ | Many people who use Proxo with my ZXList often tend to send me emails with questions and suggestions. Feedback like that helps to make ZXList better.
Even if you post here with URLs and screenshots of how you view things would be a help not only to yourself, but to others who benefit from ZXList.
One thing to remember, no matter how large the list of filters are, only the ones that are activated have any impact on Proxomitron. The inactive filters are just like filters that aren't there at all.
You see, I view the web as something the way I want to see it thru my own eyes. Proxo helps me do that. I'm not so much interested in the fireworks and flair.. I'm after information, information that doesn't pollute my system or track my whereabouts. |

sigPremium join:2001-05-05 | reply to Buffalo8 Buffalo: Zhen's default config is like a buffet: there are a wide variety of filters so people can pick and choose what they like for their browsing needs. You don't like the beets? Have the ribs instead. But don't say it's all **** because user participation and selection is required to get a free lunch designed to your liking.
Zhen's choices for his own browsing (it is his default configuration, after all) may be more rigorous than my own, but that's no problem. I can figure out what's right for me. I put a little time in to try to understand the filters and the program and then change the config to suit my needs rather than complain that "it doesn't work," it creates a "junkyard" and criticize Zhen's choices. That's churlish behavior IMO, not constructive criticism. (And, as I noted above before you posted your "critique," the Super Opener filter does work if you disable the "Open in Same Window" filter.)
If you want to stick to the basics, use the program's default configuration filters and add the ones you want from the variety of filters available online or design your own.
If you use Zhen's config, you'll get Zhen's config. Change it to suit your needs if you wish. I do and I also thank Zhen for sharing his work with us. |

| reply to Buffalo8 Buffalo,
I see it as a tool. The better you can handle it the better it works for you. I also think the rules are too restrictive for the way and sites I surf. So when an update comes out I take a day or so and customize the tool for how I work. Yeah it takes a little time, but then so does everything worthwhile on a computer. In fact I haven't loaded the new versions of either because I just got through the last update a couple weeks ago. When I have time for it I will get around to it. This is definitely one tool that you can customize to your hearts content.
Paul, kudos to you for all the hard work you put into this and then making it available for all of us to use. This is not your job but something you enjoy and wish to share. Thanks from me. |

You need to play with the filter set to activate or deactivate filters that fit your needs. Zhen is providing a starting point for everyone, it is up to you to take it where you want to.
Thanks Zhen. It has been fun. |
