If Wave does not get off their butts soon and replace this node/router/gateway im gonna go with qwest. I had an uptime on modem and router both linksys of 45 days with my modem capped speed 24 hours a day 7 days a week, then since the week beginning December 15th, speeds up and down, cable modem doesnt want to connect, signal is fine when modem is connected.. Yet Wave says its me, its my cable modem, its me using bit torrent, its me, me, ME!!! Its not me its their network, I was a telecommunications specialist in the Army for 8 years. troubleshooted voice and data communication with the ancient us army crap radios and old cisco routers. I think I know when its not my side.. Anyhow heres the evidence tonight 7pmish on the 4th of JAN 2008 in Sequim, WA!!!

The traceroute shows my first and second hops to 4.2.2.1 big internet backbone for west coast.. my first and second hops are giving me high ass pings that are unstable all day which cause my speeds to be crap, the ping windows in last screenshot show that. as i type this its even worse... how is it my fault WAVE if my first and second hop which is your crap equipment is whats making it so i cant use the internet that i pay for as a customer.. maybe its overloaded, maybe its faulty, maybe you guys are using bittorrents, maybe one of your non paying customers or employees are uncapping there connections(hacking their cable modems) to take all your bandwidth.. FIX IT!@!!

I see your router on the tracert but what is the first hop after that? 10.3.0.1...

Im thinking thats your cablemodem some how. If thats the case Id do some checking between your router and that point.

Look at your connections from the router right out to the cable drop. Might save you some headaches.

on my lan my router is 192.168.1.1
my cable modem on my side is 192.168.100.1
the 10.*.*.* ip is the first hop from my cable modem through the RG-6 cable to their headend! or connection node or gateway to the rest of their equipment. and once again having same issues today! its 4pm 5th of JAN 2008..

Yeah, looks like their headend equipment is borked. Good luck with getting them to actually go out and look at it.

borked this is just f**kin scrwed up and spoke with a higher level tech today and it takes them 24-48 hours for a network engineer on their side to look at things...

i started my winter quarter today in college and cant connect to my school to get stuff due the dam packet loss

once again got the nice ole line, its your cable modem try another one it will register with a new mac address and may fix things for you since yer mac address in their database puts you on certain range of stuff, and I said to him.. HEY why dont u just change it on yourside and give me new stuff in database for the cable modem im using and its mac address.. talkin about ip and gateway ranges...

I maintain that it might be your modem or your line or something at the street level.

Your signal levels are almost out of spec on the upstream side. A weak modem and your done. A little ingress on the system and your done.

Try this also.

c:>ping -n 100 192.168.100.1

The 10. IP is the modem (Non-Routable IP). Your signal hitting the modem is borderline your return is borderline. Those linksys router modem combos (Broadcom Chipset alone should explain things)are horrible pieces of equipment. Just get one of their modems and try the same test and have them fix the forward signal and return.

hey dude I never said I have a modem/router combo
for your information I have a linksys ver2.2 wrt54g running tomato custom firmware ver 1.23 that blows stock crap out of the water..

My cable modem is the older BEFCMU10 seperate piece of equipment which is docsis 2.0 compliant and has latest stock firmware, Ive had it since comcast as isp in olympia wa, had it since i had millenium media cable isp now known as broadstripe, and with wavecable now, I had an uptime of 45 days on my router being on 24/7 with my cable modem and my lan all setup tweaked and optimized as one of my screenshots show from along time ago the bandwidth chart from tomato firmware showing my max download 24/7 use to be 1253kbs or equivalent to the exact capped speed on my cable modem of 10240, since they introduced this 10.3.0.1 into my outside route and no its not my cable modem that 10.3.0.1 is waves equipment, hell if your on wave try using ftp proggie and connecting to that ip, u should be able to connect to port 21 and say connected then disconnected, thats waves shit..

im not running a ftp server on my router or cable modem when you try to connect to me from the outside world in my ip routes up there it would be the second ip address that connected u directly to me, which would be incoming from inet to me without going through that 10.3.0.1 router, but for outgoing from me they are putting me through that hop probably since they got this new filtering shit for bit torrent users and illegal downloaders... my CABLE MODEM on my lan is 192.168.100.1 and my cable modem going to wan port on router is bringing my isp assigned from wave for outside inet access which is in 24.x.x.x range they dont filter incoming just outgoing.. go look at older posts youll see some people from along time ago wave users were also being filtered in their traceroutes to outside inet, through a router with the 10.x.x.x ips they also had issues like im having, then others in the newer threads that show their traceroutes dont have that 10.x.x.x in their routes..

from midnight to early afternoon this is what i may get taken from this morning or yesterday

if my modem was the issue this would not happen ever with my so called borderline signal levels, if you knew anything about linksys cable modems there optimal range for downstream signal is -15 to 15+ with SNR from 30 higher the better..

and its optimal range to keep a connection and give you optimal throughput for upstream is up to 58+db

i get 9mbps range if waves crap isnt congested from 12am(midnight) most of the time up until early or later afternoon then it goes kaput as seen it the other screenshots.. maybe wave should upgrade their equipment and give customers what they pay for and maintain it..

Sorry but I dont read minds and don't know your experience. So thats why I suggested those tests. Dont take it personal.

I have the identical cable modem myself and can say its probably the best Ive ever worked with. But you could of had a bad one. +15dBmV to -15dBmV is docsis spec. So you know that the manufacturers will try to save money and make them not work any better than that. Optimal on downstream is as close to 0dBmV as possible and the lower the better on upstream as long as upstream snr is good. The outer limits are never optimal. The upstream side being as high as your is always worries me. I want to see under 50dBmV. It just means they have the transmitter turned up in your modem so the node can receive your signal. Wave techs are supposed to try and get better numbers than absolute docsis specs. But if its working during the day you have your proof that the packet loss isnt related to your drop.

To the other poster, the Sequim area has many systems that must have been built by the same engineer because they are all on similar 10. subnets. I didnt know the cable system was one of them. Our Qwest supplied Olypen dsl account is on a more standard subnet. My shop is south of Carlsborg.

My home in the Port Orchard area is all 24.113. before it goes on to the Noanet network.

Good luck!

Amen. I was suprised to see someone else from Sequim. I'm on Old Olympic near Carlsborg and I've been periodically having the same problems for months. I called and explained the problem to their tech support and they sent a technician out that claimed to have "fixed the problem" by putting an Arco filter on my line. Ridiculous.

Even more ironically I have some of my original CCNP/CCIE certification books from the late 90's/early 2000's sitting on a bookshelf next to the desk of the computer he "fixed it" with. *facepalm*

Working on getting a fiber connection to my house through CPI, but its damn expensive to bring it in.

It seems they don't have the BW they need to support the speeds. Keep in mind that they do not have to meet your provisioned speed. Rememberthe words "up to"

they dont have the bandwidth, because although my packetloss and high latency issues were fixed when they finally added or replace or repaired this new equipment they were testing, they as of recently added a new speed tier 18mbps down and 2 meg up yet im still on the 10mb/1mb plan and when its congested or everyone on my node is using the net here in sequim, wa, my speeds downloading files is dropping right now from 9mbps to 4mbps and up and down and up and down, so how in the hell can wave even add even a faster speed tier if they cant even with their bandwidth now, handle the 10mb tier.. i cant beleive this crap maybe thats why my speeds are sucking, pings are great once again and no packet loss thank god.. want my speed i still pay for back though!
