ATT ConnecTech Jobs?

I noticed today that ATT offered this service to all 50 states. They have been since August 2008, but I never paid any attention to that. I have been looking for a new job and that seems like it would be a great one to have. I cannot find anywhere that ATT is looking for a Tech. Usually something like that is noticed somewhere. I mean they service 50 states with this service. Does anyone know anything about this?

They must keep an awful low profile. It says the service is available in all 50 states, but I've never seen them or heard them mentioned in the area I work.

It makes me wonder if they outsource their work with another company.

ConnecTech are contractors and not actual employees of AT&T, so you won't see AT&T offering jobs for ConnecTech. You have to know what Agency is doing the hiring. I know of 1 of the agencies - onforce.com. Check there for jobs.

AT&T bought out the parts of CompUSA that TigerDirect didn't take. I hear in other regions (not Southeast) ConnecTech does the DSL installs.

A mailer I got in the SE said they can do a dsl install but it costs more than a professional install by a dsl tech. I imagine the connectech folks would know a bit more about the computer side of it than your average dsl tech. I sort of doubt that they have any great success with it.

Hello, here is the deal with AT&T ConnecTech. What they do is give subcontracters the work through OnForce. OnForce is a great little community of techs and buyers. I signed up with OnForce a couple months ago and have done over 40 work orders for AT&T, Dell, Verizon, HP, Gateway, you name it. For AT&T you must submit to a background check through onforce and pay for it, also you must have a drug test and pay for it and then get invited to their provider network. AT&T will not give the work out to just anybody either. You must have alot of experience as a PC Tech, Network Technician and all around excellent customer service and troubleshooting skills. You must also be very committed and hard working as the way OnForce works is through ratings. DO a bad job, get bad ratings and you wont get any more work through them. The AT&T pay is not the best either (most other companies are more). For example a wireless network setup will get you $80. Going to someones house to swap out a video card is around $65. These are very simple examples and on an average day i can earn $400 doing a handful of work orders from OnForce. The other day I did 6 Dell calls (hardware swaps) printer maint kit install for HP, wireless network troubleshooting for a hotel and a hardware install at ToysRus and i made about $900 in one 12 hour day. Also in the beginning you will get like 1 work order a week. Take anything you can to build your ratings and in no time you will get 2-8 a day depending on where you live. Pricing always depends on the type of job but the average is $120. I have had work orders pay $700 and i have had ones pay $40. Also a week can go by and you will only get like 4 total but its worth it to be your own boss and not report to anyone! Good luck!!

So confirmed that AT&T is using On Force... interesting... I know Embarq does the same.

Yes, infact i have done work for them. The thing is though there are some really knowledgeable people on onforce and then there are the 10$ an hour pizza techs. The companies who are greedy and will only spend $40 on a $100 job will most likely get a pizza tech and that makes the company and the good onforce techs look bad. Lately i have been insulted at the price of some of the work orders. They will have insane demands, be hours away and have a price of $40. The sad thing is they get scooped up in less than 2 minutes and its driving the market way down. Alot of people are doing this stuff and i am considering switching careers. Im certain that skilled trades are gonna be some of the higher paying jobs in the near future(mechanics, electricians, plumbers, contractors). I have been seeing alot of pc tech jobs paying around 12$ an hour and they want 3plus years exp. I was making 17$ an hour 8 years ago entry level just installing pcs. Its getting worse too. Im done complaining. Gonna go fill out my mcdonalds application now.
