Re: Comcast early termination fee.

I dunno, I haven't seen any of the cableco footprints out here messing with contracts/ETFs. Usually it's only been the telco/DSL providers from my experience.

Though Time Warner is now doing this price lock thing which might be introducing contracts to their business. But that is purely optional and I don't think I've seen too many other providers following a similar plan.

I'm talking specifically about Comcast.. and yes, some systems in the east coast do have contracts with ETFs.. few, but they do exist on SOME of the promo offerings.

But, you are right, it's LARGELY been a telco ploy to keep customers.

Keep in mind, however, cable has changed its ways over the times. Example: They USED to bash satellite for their PPV being only in 1 room / 1 box at a time while cable was per account. Was supposed to be a great benefit. THEN cable moved to the same scheme for years, only to RECENTLY start moving back, some of them. They also talked about how you didn't have to pay any mirroring fee's for additional boxes.. and, to this day, there are still cable companies (Comcast, Charter, Mediacom to name a few) that still charge for the box rental AND a "mirror" or "gateway" fee on additional outlets bringing the fees upwards to about $13 per additional room.

So.. things do change.

Fair enough. Times change as do business practices.

And yeah, Time Warner's recent 'price lock' is essentially the same where you get the promo price (or something lower, I forget) for like 2 years under contract. But it is purely optional and for new customers only IIRC.
