Walled Garden, bridge mode and customer service

If the main purpose of Walled Garden is to make it easier for CS to diagnose problems by logging into the modem, how does it work if a modem is in the bridge mode?

Good point Laci. Plus I have a question. Many times prior to wallet garden the techs from Kansas (before Wipro) were in my modem. So what is the point?

Or maybe the point is to run a router or your own hardware firewall to be sure your side of your LAN is your side.

It doesn't work in Bridge Mode AFAIK. Walled Garden is actually known as TR-069.

Broadband Forum (formally the DSL Forum) TR-069 and its extensions (TR-098, TR-104, TR-106, TR-110, TR-111, TR-135, TR-140, TR-142)* Frequently Asked Questions

TR-069 - CPE WAN Management Protocol Whitepaper
»www.broadband-forum.org/technica···-069.pdf

How it works in Router Mode:

quote:
The Speedstream 4200 comes with a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) WAN Management Protocol (CWMP) agent enabled (at least in the Optus firmware version of the router). This agent periodically attempts to connect to an ISP server which can remotely configure the router to your ISP's desire. You may have seen an entry in your system log or syslog similar to the following one which indicates that it is active:

2008-08-17 00:18:01 E | CWMP |CWMP agent cannot reach the ACS named acs.optusnet.com.au:1111/ACS-INTF. Retry in 10 seconds
This is what it looks like in the 4200 Walled Garden system log. Look at the CWMP line entry next to the last entry.

What’s the point of owning a supercar if you can’t scare yourself stupid from time to time?

Wallet Garden? That's really inaccurate as hell and extremely misleading since »Windstream DNS redirection is their Money Maker and not related to Walled Garden. It really seems that things that you don't understand are automatically evil or nefarious which is the farthest thing from reality.

Please if you can explain how anyone at Windstream was inside your 4200 or 5200 before Walled Garden was introduced unless they were sitting right next to you in your residence with your express permission. Otherwise that is the epitome of FUD spreading.
