SB5120 packet loss or something?

I don't know, just seems whenever I'm play a game like WoW or surfing the internet, or just sitting idle. My connections drops at times, for like 10 seconds. It will than be okay for about 5 mins and do it again. My msn messenger goes crazy and resets itself. I lag like a champ in wow, and sometimes have to his "reload" on a page because it lossed the data along the way. How could I fix this? I'm connected directly into the SB5120.

What are the modem's signal levels?

Let me guess, you've got a lower-ish SNR. I had the exact same problem, for nearly two years, because I live in an apartment building, which are notorious for wiring issues. The SB5120 uses a different chipset than the other surfboard modems, and doesn't work well with a poor signal. My SNR was in the 34-35dB range, which is on the low side for QAM256. I replaced the SB5120 with an SB5101, and now my SNR doesn't drop below 37.5db even in the worst of weather, and my problem has vanished.

Naturally, there are other things that could cause your problem, but I've noticed a lot of people have this same problem with the SB5120, where they randomly drop for a few seconds.

FYI, you can check your signal levels at »192.168.100.1
