Hello All Time we start preparing for the Championship on the south side....question remains whom will be our 2nd baseman, 3rd baseman, and perenial problem center field position.
I'm hoping Getz turns it around. I'd also like to see Anderson used only as a utility -- "When I was in junior high school, the teachers voted me the student most likely to end up in the electric chair."---Sylvestor Stallone |

| reply to S_engineer whom don't you trust...Contreras and Colon will be injured by all star break leaving KW with some decisions to make.
I see Crede got picked up by the Twins....he'll come back to haunt.

| Living by the Oz is a good thing - he's gotten the most any manager can get out of his players - certainly that was the case last year. His only bad season as a manager was 2007. I'm an Ozzie fan. Rheinsdorf, not so much, although I don't hate the guy the way some do.
Contreras won't even be ready till mid-season, if at all or ever. Colon, probably a bad bet, but it won't cost much.
That leaves the kids. We'll see who does what over the next few weeks. -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| said by jsinaiko : but it won't cost much. The koolaid has you now on board with his money saving agenda. This years koolaid really hit you hard but I don't worry because the antidote will be here by mid summer. Hope you get well soon. |

| Oh come on! I'm not saying it was a great move - although if the guy manages to stay healthy he's a hellova pitcher - but it isn't a move that will prevent them from making other moves.
I am NOT a koolaid drinker - just remembering my hostility at this time last year and taking a more moderate wait-and-see attitude this year. It's no fun to hate the team you love. -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| I'll never hate MY team but I see things the way they are. I'll still go to games (probably less tho) and watch them on tv. I look in the paper and see signings the Sox should have done. Today I see Hudson. The worse thing in life is being played a sucker and that's what is happening this year to Sox fans. In previous years the Sox have said everyone is over priced and the market will correct itself. Well they were right, it did correct itself this year ( except for the early yank signings) and where is the chairman's hand? Still in his pocket rubbing those 2 buffalo nickels against each other. |

| Sry for the double post.... The Sox still have a good chance at playing some decent ball this year provided the players that are getting paid big money actually earn it!(cough..cough..Konerko) Thing that bothers me is the dismissal of Crede. Now I understand it's imperative to have healthy players, but if you're going to take that approach, why pick up Colon? Contreras is a question mark as well. as far as the chairman goes...name a chairman thats not rubbing nickels together. Yeah, I know, Stienbrenner. But I really don't want to spend a thousand dollars a ticket either! -- "When I was in junior high school, the teachers voted me the student most likely to end up in the electric chair."---Sylvestor Stallone |

| At this time a year ago I picked the Sox to come in just ahead of KC. This year I'm taking a wait and see attitude. I think KW did what he said he would; make the team younger. There are a lot of question marks - and we all agree about that. But the core is good, and the pitching will probably be OK.
It's a strong division, and there is a good chance that everyone will pretty much cancel each other out.
We'll see. Opening day in only 5 1/2 weeks! -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| reply to S_engineer Contreas will be back in the rotation sometime in April from what it looks like. he is 30 lbs. lighter and seems to be in fairly good shape. first time i've ever thought those words let alone wrote them. Colon I expect to be around for at least a half season before he gets injured. hopefully I'm wrong but he does have a track record. 2nd base is what i'm most worried about. I'm not sure who will end up there, but hope it is someone who is a smart player. all the other OF and IF positions i'm ok with. Konerko I think will be back this year, as long as he stays healthy.....
The 5th pitching spot...oh, the 5th spot. Clayton Richard will probably get the spot, just hope he can be consistently good. I'd settle for even decent.
now i plan to enjoy spring training |

| You are setting up an almost optimal scenario. The Contreras thing is just amazing - I really thought his career was over, given that he's about 60 years old or something!
I hope you are right. That said, I'm not too worried about 2B. One of those guys will fill the bill.
Viciedo hit a dinger off of Garland today, and Poreda apparently looked good.

| reply to S_engineer I can understand why they let Crede go. he didn't get the surgery when they wanted him to, and then his back went again. My person belief is that it's chronic and will be back - which is a shame. Crede is a class player. I liked him, but he gone. -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| He's a big boy - packs a lotta power, as Early Wynn would have put it.
The Contreras thing is amazing too - I would not have believed that he'd be back. And Colon - well, if the guy can stay healthy - right now, as you point out he's also a big boy with a lot of power who is not in the best of shape, he'll help.
It's funny - there was an article in the NY Times about how many ballplayers have literally shrunk due to no longer being juiced. I don't think Colon's weight is the result of steroids. More like a lotta beans and rice! -- Illegitimati non carborundum
