| [DSL] Cisco 675 Question
About 5 yrs back I had DSL through Qwest in the Seattle area. The modem they supplied is a Cisco 675.
Question: Could a Verizon tech support person assist someone with setting up the Cisco 675 with a current Verizon DSL broadband connection?
I want to give this unit I no longer use to a relative who's modem failed. The relative is back East and not computer oriented. They would need step by step guidance. I don't want to hand off a bunch of trouble to them. |

| reply to tdf That is a CAP only Modem and will not work with any provider but Qwest as far as I know.
»zerospace.org/c675/ quote: A quick comment on the Cisco 675, 678, CAP and DMT. The 675 CAN NOT do DMT, there is NOT a firmware update. DMT requires special harware and programming. The 678 was created for DMT and CAP, the software just needs to be flashed. But again the 675 CAN NOT BE FLASHED to support DMT. This seems to be a popular misunderstanding because the 678 was shipped programmed for CAP before it was grandfathered. This is misunderstood by some phone techs, and others.
And a quick comment on DMT, DMT is Discrete Multi Tone (Like CDMA, only it is PtP and less redundant, (technicaly it is very different)). Most forms of comunication work by modulating the frequency, or amplitude (AM/FM), but radio and wired communication is different anyway. CAP works encodes its data on the time domain, while DMT encodes on both the time and frequency domains.
