| Metro Detroit slow internet?
Anyone else having problems the past couple of days?
I have 8/1 internet, normally get between 300KB-600KB when downloading.
The past 2 days it's just been way slow though. I've been trying to download a large file and I'm getting between 20KB-45KB. Sometimes it will speed up into the 300's then go right back down. Websurfing is doing the same thing, at some points nothing is even loading.
Just now the speed hit 408KB then quickly dropped back down.
W.O.W is getting terrible IMO. I was going to switch to U-verse when I moved a couple weeks ago but the install wait was 2 weeks. I think I may be switching over after all if they keep this up. |

| reply to annoyed This thread is a little old, but I wanted to add my two cents here too. I'm located in Ferndale, MI and have had WOW for several years. Upgraded to the 8/1 package about a year ago when WOW upgraded their speeds.
Over the past few months, download speed has been getting consistently worse. Had a tech out to see what was wrong. He replaced the modem with a newer model. I got 8mbps download that day tested from their Flash speed test pages.
The very next day, however, download speeds went back to abysmally slow -- sometimes 2.5mbps, but usually lower around 1.5mbps to 1.0mbps. Upload speed seemed consistent around 1.0mbps as advertised throughout.
I will have to call back in and ask for some assistance. My feeling is that they're probably just oversubscribing their network and southeastern Michigan is getting busy enough to where we notice it now. |

| reply to annoyed When WOW up dated to 16/2 in my neighborhood I had very slow speeds but after about 5/6 months it got better.
However, the last few days have been very bad again. It started about he same time as the wind storm so I assume it's related.
As far as having a WOW tech come out to the house. Yes I had them out here far to many times. Since it never did any good I stoped calling them.
The cable from the pole to my house is the smallest part of the WOW infrastructure. When I call them this is the only part they'll look at.
Since the speed is below what I'm paying them for I'll call customer support and request a deduct off of my bill for this month.
Only after I started using this approach did my internet service improve. Is it related? Who knows, but one should never pay full price for late pizza... I mean slow internet. |

| reply to annoyed Yeah I am definitely feeling a major slow down every night at around the same time (10-ish). I'm going to call tomorrow and hopefully, after the mandatory cable run around where they try to blame my router (despite the fact that direct connecting doesn't help), will get some news. |

| I'm having slow speeds running through a router tonight.
Weird thing is I'm getting different routes depending upon if I;m connected to my router or the modem.
Support says they don't allow trace routes!

  Still Annoyed
@wideopenwest.com
| reply to annoyed Still bad here, probably worse than it was.
I work I either use an open wifi signal (20% signal) or my phone as a modem (20%-40%), these speeds are about equal and come back about 300k down 100k up. It feels almost like dial up with pages slowly loading.
But when I get home it feels worse, the speeds test fine but its so much slower, I think the bad DNS servers finally went to hell. It seems to be the communication back and forth that is slow not the transmission of data really. You click a link nothing happens for 5 seconds then the page starts loading right up.
I had changed the DNS to another DNS though my router but it didn't work I'm still shown as using WOW's. |
