| [Travel] 10 year wedding anniversary and Myrtle Beach
Wife wants to go to Myrtle Beach since we can't afford a cruise. Kids are not going with us and I would like to get something on the beach that is nice.
This is available: Anderson Ocean Club and Spa for a decent price considering - $189/day.
I can do Priceline, Best Fares and am looking on Hotels.com and will probably touch on Travelocity or Expedia.com
What other hotels should I consider? Is this hotel any good at all? -- Brian

| reply to CylonRed Are you looking for oceanfront? If so, $200 a night is the MINIMUM I'd look to spend for the dates you want to go. If you don't mind being in a hotel across the street from the beachfront, you can get some killer deals for $100-$200 in very nice places. Look for something on or near Ocean Avenue if you want to walk amongst the open air beachfront stores.
Also, N. Myrtle Beach is not the Myrtle Beach your wife wants to see I'm guessing. North Myrtle is about 20 miles or so (40 minutes + by car due to traffic) from Myrtle where all the cool stuff is.
Finally, don't be fooled by "ocean view" ... that's not ocean FRONT. I've been burned before.
I will warn you, Myrtle Beach is full of thugs cruising the streets at night and is so commercial it has lost all its charm. If you want to go for the restaurants and entertainment, it's definitely worth it (Medieval Times is a blast) ... but the beach areas during that time will be packed with wild high school and college kids because they are out for the summer.
Happy Anniversary! |

4 edits | Like I said - I don't have a real choice as I would not have chosen Myrtle Beach but I do plan a day trip to Charleston as I was just there for a day last week for work.
Notes for myself so I do not lose them:
The Breakers Resort - 3/5 stars Expedia - ocean front less than $200.00
Monterey Bay Suites - 3/5 - ocean front - average of stay $200.23 - free breakfast.
Avista Resort - 5/5 Travelocity - ocean front - average $214.00 - North of Myrtle Beach (N Ocean Blvd).
The reviews are maddening at the different sites. |

No offense but unless you want your vacation in a sea side over commercialized chain Disneyworld, I'd go almost anywhere else, but Disney/Orlando and Miami.
Even not much farther south I'd do Tybie Island or Savanah before ever considering Myrtle. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

Seriouly, if you Disnied you honnymoon... you owe it to yourself to go somewhere different for the 10th not just a redux. Some place you can just be, and maybe find fun people... not a BAZZILION others JUST LIKE YOU (or gasp worse)... why leave home in that case -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

But also irritates me that people drag pased out infant/carrier age kids into bars at midnight that is not the place those people should be either.... that is what Branson and Disney are made for. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)

| We do plan on doing other things as well and plan a day trip to Charleston. We may do other trips but a lot depends on my wife's back and we won;t be out after 10 pm or so anyway.
Kids of course should not be in bars at all but if all parents were good - we would have a lot less abuse. |
