Acanac VOIP Good or Bad?

Just wondering if a few end users would share their experience with Acanac's VOIP service. Also can you transfer your current telephone number?

Can't say if it's good or bad but what i know is that you can't transfer your current number

I've had it for a year and a half with no major problems.
Can't beat the free long distance in North America.
More features than I had with my regular phone and no extra charges for features like call display etc.

Love it.

  Most VOIP users are happy.
Sometimes, voice quality issues may occur, depending of your tyical DSL speed performance, actual usage (say full-speed downoading/uploading on you PC when you call) and hardware equipment.
Some routers have nice QoS features for this purpose.

Hi,
quick summary, I'd say(Acanac's voip-service) is somewhere in between good and bad. Obvisouly, its good 'fer 'da money.

1st, Acanac's DSL does rock for me and it's relable and stable.

BUT, for the sake of (my) personal and honest experience, acanac's VOIP is "fairly good most of the time", meaning, I had some intermittent-voip issues about 6 months ago, but they were resolved, and now I'm having some more intermittent voip issues again -not yet solved.

You will NOT however, find any VOIP-service cheaper than Acanac's for $9.95/mo. anywhere around here.
(unless you use a couple of cans and some string, and even then, the cost of the string would be exhorbatent across North America.)

so I guess that being said, it is a GOOD deal (for a voip-service) all 'round.

Rick.

Good for the money but if you are on interleaved dsl, line will cut sometimes (you'll miss words, etc.) I have a few customers who got really unhappy with VOIP and they had to switch back to Bell because Bell's network was saturated in their network causing many packet lost...

Agree about these issues.
That's why we try to switch to fast path when VoIP is used and quality suffers.
Unfortunately, the process is again Bell-dependent.
Acanac support creates "trouble queries" - internal tickets to ask for fast path profiles.
Usually, if the line allows, bell techs do the change, but again, it is not straightforward process.

 Acanac VOIP Good

Wish I could get back on Fast Path again, but I don't like Bell messing with my profile. I was on Fast Path for about a year started getting intermittent disconnects and ended up on Interleave, Noise Margins stayed the same as on Fast Path?
I wasn't having errors on my line. Looking at ping rates of 70ms now. Voip is still good though, even when using torrent client.

Downstream Rate: 5056 kbps
Upstream Rate: 800 kbps
Channel: Interleaved
Current Noise Margin: 16.0 dB (Downstream), 15.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Attenuation: 41.7 dB (Downstream), 26.0 dB (Upstream)

Re: Acanac VOIP Good or Bad?

Just to add my 2cents...

Acanac VOIP is good for the money...
I used a free VOIP account for a few months without any problems...
But after some time, my line was not usable at all... my voicemail message did not play correctly... quality for outgoing and incoming calls was very low...
I wasn't expecting 100% uptime for a free account... but at least, I should get my problem resolved within 24 hours.

At the same time, I was also using a VOIP account with VOIP.ms...
this account always worked fine... not a single problem yet... quality is excellent... and this service as more options/features than any other service I used.
Yes VOIP.ms may be a little bit more expensive if you use your VOIP line alot... but it's worth every pennies!!!

Today, I have 3 phone numbers with VOIP.ms... one for my house, one for my company and one toll free (1-866...) also for my company...
for those 3 numbers, it's 5.47$US + my usage...
