| bye bye Vonnage hello magicJack
I have used Vonage for over 3 years very happy with them. But...... Just can't compare to magicJacks pricing! Only issue I have w/ MJ compared to Vonnage is my PC has to be on & logged in XP or MJ will not work. I can deal with that for the price. |

| reply to jbbcd Atlanta area was very crowded, I spent a small amount of money chasing issues (I.E. powered usb hub, new home phone) and just recently gave up. I did not go back to Vonage but also was not able to stay with Magic Jack. Hope your experience is better as the price is incredible. |

| reply to jbbcd I've been with mj for 5 months and it's been alright. The Atlanta server and a few others are oversold and the audio gets choppy but once you learn how to block them the calls are just as good as my verizon cell phone. Go figure I pay verizon $160 a month for a family plan and get mj for less than $2 when averaged out. For the amount of calls I make on my home phone mj is fine. |

| reply to WAVZuser yeah right.
I had nothing but connectivity issues, my internet kept dropping me, and they lied to me on so many issues, I can barely keep track.
Not everyone is affected by their bad firmware update. But many were. I just now found out that it was a Vonage issue (well, I knew it was; just never had the reliable proof).
Hate Vonage with a passion now. But, no, they arent reliable, in ANY sense of the word. Service wise, billing wise, or integrity wise. |

Remember, some of us are nearing year #8 with fantastic service from Vonage. Never one dropped call in all that time. I think they're just after YOU. (They may be watching you read this...) Yep, for me, they sucked. And, had they not lied to me, I would have been happy to try them later. Get this: I called their HQ's, the lady promised me she would listen to the tapes, and if what I said was true, they would honor it. She listened to the tapes, and said "While they did indeed say what you said, "It is still against Vonage policy, so we still cannot honor it". This after she said "If that is what we said, we will honor it" But, that was only one of at least 5 lies.
And, yes, I know it was bad service for me. I have a friend who has never had an issue with them. but, for me, when I had 10 mb down, and it drops to 1mb, and when people can't understand me, yeah, there's an issue. To make this clear, it never made any sense. I had T/W people out several times, I had gone through Vonage tech, up thru level 2, and even level 3. I bought several routers, being told by T/W and Vonage I had a bad router. Then they blamed each other. What was really really annoying is, everyone kept saying how it couldn't be either Time Warner or Vonage, because I had one service or the other, so it HAD to be my computer. I finally narrowed it down to Vonage or Time Warner, because I went to San Diego last year, left my laptop on the entire time I was there, never once got disconnected; proving it was not my computer. I'll admit, it didn't make sense that I could have phone, but not internet (even if the phone audio was poor). But, since leaving Vonage, I have not had this issue. Now, knowing there is a firmware issue, it's all so clear to me. (Except how it affects some, but not all users). It was a very frustrating time, because I do a lot over the internet, and some very important things and meetings. I'm just glad to know it was Vonage's fault, and to have something to point to.
Had they not lied to me, had they not "stuck it to me" I would have been happy to give them another chance down the road. Now? They can rot in hell and wake up to find out they are bankrupt for all I care. They treat their customers like that, and soon enough they will. |

Can't say that I or the many people I've set Vonage up for have ever had anything CLOSE to what you're describing, so we'll continue saving mega $$$ with Vonage.
Good luck to you. -- 1/20/09 = The final day of our Retarded Cowboy President! |

I disagree.... the 4-5 times that I've called for support over the past 7 years, they've picked up quickly, and they've solved my problem quickly. I'm not "frightened" by a foreign accent. -- 1/20/09 = The final day of our Retarded Cowboy President! |

I do prefer Vonage more than MJ though - more convenient in that PC doesn't have to be on all the time, and when I was encoding video or doing photo editing forget using MJ. Didn't like MJ customer service either.
I had issues with Vonage as well (dropped calls/ my other party couldn't hear me), and I called customer support often but I always got US support. They never accepted fault, but were mostly patient and helpful. I finally narrowed my problem to my router and cable modem and everything's been great since.
I still have the MJ, but I just use the Vonage service more. |

| What's your secret to get to USA support? I worked for them in NJ for about 14 months about 3 years ago and the "trick" we gave to customers to get to US support was to ask for billing then have them transfer you to T.S. Now I'm told the only thing left in NJ is advanced t.s., account management and "executive" customer service.

Unless Sandeep and Prahdeep are now using American accents and calling themselves Ed, Jon, Max and Nancy, I've just been lucky.
Come to think of it though, the last time I spoke to them, it was through billing, but I normally go through TS (they do have an annoying IVR that I have to abuse though). |

| reply to jbbcd I dropped Vonage about 18 months ago, not because I had problems with the service, but rather I got a better deal from my cable company and although I wasn't under a contract with Vonage any longer, and I did not have to agree to a contract with my cable company.
I got my service with Vonage back in April of 2003, paid roughly $80 to sign up and receive a cisco ATA 186 adapter (trying to recover the password now, I've already tried 24Million passwords). My monthly bill (with no international calls) has ranged from ~ $32 to almost $44 depending upon what Vonage did with their pricing. -- It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine |
