[FP] Looking To Join FP

I have 8U of space in my rack available, and I don't pay for my electricity, so I would like to make that rack space available for a couple of rack mount blades.

Linux is my preferred OS, since I can use SSH to get into it. I can't find any remote control software for windows that JAWS works with. (For those who don't know, I'm blind)

I've already got a few machines folding. (I'm worried about Helix...it doesn't seem to be running well.)

First, thank you for the folding you are doing!

It is very easy to join FP

Cool. I've got several ethernet cards and a few small hard drives I'd be willing to donate (can't afford cash donation at this time.)

I also have quite a few various optical drives (I don't know what works and what doesn't, and have no real way to test them) I know there are CD-ROM drives, DVD-ROM's and CD-RW drives. I don't think there are any DVD-RW's in the stack. (I need to start brailling my hardware so I know what is what)

Also, foldinator.net (as linked in the faq) is giving me an internal server error. Looks like it's having a bad day.

Those links/sites have been discontinued. By alerting people here, I am sure it will get removed.

The donation as cash does not need to be significant. Parts certainly can count, but I am not sure what FP is really in need of these days? Most recently we have moved away from bare bone scratch builds, and been cashing in on the awesome deals at Dell when they appear and there is cash to support it. QUAD Core2 desktops really work hard.

One of the bigger liabilities was power supplies, but even that seems less common lately. What is running, has been mostly working like a champ.

Let me say I like your enthusiasm! Hope you join us as you indicated and are surely welcome here. FP can always use another member.

Re: [FP] Looking To Join FP

A donation has been made to the Project in your name Brad, so you are now an official Foldinator Project member!

Our next step would be to discuss adding you as a potential operator, so you can receive FP-provided hardware and officially put that rack space to good use.

The following is the New Operator Questionnaire list. Please go over them and provide your answers, and if you have any questions or concerns please me know, or post your question here. They are all pretty straightforward, and you can reply at your leisure. Again, I thank you on behalf of Team Helix and the Foldinator Project for expressing interest in being an OP!

Here are the questions:

1. What Operating Systems do you have experience running?

2. Are you experienced in building PCs? If so, please briefly describe your experiences.

3. How many blades are you interested in hosting?

4. Do you have Homeowners insurance that covers, or can cover, your Foldy? Do you agree to carry insurance sufficient to replace your Foldy if damaged while in your custody?

5. Do you have the physical space to host a Foldy? It should be a dry, cool location.

6. Do you have internet access (behind a firewall) for the Foldy?

7. Have you thought about electricity costs (for system and cooling)? You have to pay for the extra electricity cost.

8. Do you agree to work with the other Foldy operators on team projects; i.e., common Stats? This is important!

That's all of them! If your program had trouble with any of those, let me know and I can re-format them if needed.

Thanks!

-Matt

Thanks to whoever made the donation. I hope to contribute monetarily soon.

No problems reading the questions. I'll try to answer them below. I hope I format them correctly for you to read...

Here are the questions:

1. What Operating Systems do you have experience running?

Windows XP (With JAWS), Linux (Command line via SSH and GUI via Gnupurcinus (ack!) )

2. Are you experienced in building PCs? If so, please briefly describe your experiences.

Yes. Been doing it for quite awhile. I have sighted help for jumpers etc, but mostly its' done by feel. (Contacts on the backs of cards can hurt...)

3. How many blades are you interested in hosting?

1 or 2. Depends on the physical size of the machines.

4. Do you have Homeowners insurance that covers, or can cover, your Foldy? Do you agree to carry insurance sufficient to replace your Foldy if damaged while in your custody?

Yes (Renter's insurance)

5. Do you have the physical space to host a Foldy? It should be a dry, cool location.

Yes (8U of rack space in a conditioned cabinet)

6. Do you have internet access (behind a firewall) for the Foldy?

Yes. Both cable and DSL

7. Have you thought about electricity costs (for system and cooling)? You have to pay for the extra electricity cost.

Included in rent ( )

8. Do you agree to work with the other Foldy operators on team projects; i.e., common Stats? This is important!

Yes! I love usa2k See Profile 's fah-tool, and am looking forward to helping out with whatever else is out there.

JAWS doesn't want to let me edit today...

I wanted to add I also have some room for non-rackmount machines as well.

Looking good!

Also your ability to run Linux is a plus. It puts you up there with the "geek" gurus who know how to really work over those work units. And, I can say I am NOT one of them. If it doesn't have a GUI, I'm lost!!

As soon as we finish the current running vote on adding ehansman See Profile on as an OP, we can move to the discussion and vote for you as the next candidate.

Bump to move this to the voting / dissussion phase. Foldy2 (a Dell Quad Core Q6600) formerly hosted by usa2k, and now in my temporary care and custody is available for a new operator. The machine is running Linux CentOS ver 5.3 x64 (no gui installed), and FAH-SMP v6.24 client.

With a few edits for system passwords and the new host's network details, it can be packed and shipped out UPS whenever it completes a WU.

In reading the operator qualification questions and answers above, it seems alphapointe would be well qualified.
