They managed to drop this right before 3.1 went live (within the last day), so it is VERY unlikely that you will be able to use WoWMatrix to updaty your mods for 3.1.
In other words, you will have to either use the Curse/WoWInterface clients or manually update each mod. -- Don't waste those unused cycles!Check out our Seti, Folding, Genome, UD and RC5 Teams |

Guess we'll see if they can this time or not. Else back to manually updating (and a whole lot less often)...ick |

We have another lazy WoW player here who can't take the time download and install/upgrade their own mods! I hope your not like this in RL! L. Of course it's not hard to manually install/upgrade the mods. WM was just a tool of convenience, if it goes away then we'll go back the old way. But if it works, why not utilize it? (Ok not trying to start up that whole discussion again of why WM is "bad" etc. If curse,WI had an app as easy to use as WM I'd use that instead) |

It's not about being lazy. It just pain in the ass to deal with. And if theres a program that will do all that for me.. Why on earth would i ever want to go back to the old way. Leathal.. lay off the crack pipe dude.. Its about convience, what are world is founded on. |

1 edit | reply to klambert They're already getting backlash from users for the java and flash requirements and such. If you want to do something constructive to help WoWMatrix go complain that you don't trust flash and jscript and find it crippling to you as a manual addon update person..
I also have ~150 addons. DIAF if you think that's excessive, they're situational and very useful to me. I'm a tinkerer and have even dabbled in LUA myself, addressing bugs or exposing data that I want to see from existing addons. Used to use wowace, got forced into wowmatrix when curse bought Ace.
Curse and WoWI are bitching they aren't making enough money from ads. Most 'techie' users that do use a lot of addons (and therefor a lot of bandwidth) use AdBlock or other methods to filter the ads anyway. We'll actually use *more* bandwidth in the long run now still with ZERO ad revenue. They're being f'in greedy. There's plenty of services out there to mirror files without having to invest a lot of dough, and if they stepped off of their high horse for 10 minutes I'm sure they could even cut a nice deal with WoWMatrix to share profits or otherwise.
We like WoWMatrix because it takes a lot of the BULLSHIT work out of addon updating/version checking.
I've seen a beta set of scripts to screen-scrape and do other nasty things to emulate WoWMatrix's functionality, and I fully expect the community to find a way around their new draconian stance if they don't either back off or provide a similar multi-site updater that actually works cross-platform as well.
My big question is: If the WoWMatrix folks can write an app to do it, and do it well, why can't curse and WoWI take some time away from their between the sheets love affair of late, and create a similiar app that shows their own ads instead??? It's not that f'in hard. Especially being the repo of choice from the authors they're in the best position to roll that out. Direct access to the addon databases, fast and efficient version checking, hell they could even do bit-level patching to really conserve bandwidth - Imagine that! Not that I'd trust either of them much between past issues with malicious code from their ads/updaters and their attitude throughout their WoWMatrix "problem" personally, but hey it's a better alternative.
TL;DR Version: The users want WAU/WoWMatrix/etc style updating. We have made that clear. Don't bitch when you aren't delivering the product in demand and people step all over you...

| Their problem with wowmatrix was they stripped out author info, having written addons I find that offensive thanks. It can diaf.
Hmm...WAU updating? Dunno looks pretty close to me. Oh I find the lack of ads...uh..wait what? The problem is people stripping out ads from the website not the updater fyi. |

WoWMatrix has shown author credits for a while, along with author site link functions. I know at one point that was an issue and I totally supported the addition of the credits..When WAU went south people flocked to WoWMatrix, it got the bad rap and the author actually listened to the feedback and gave proper credits... -- Baka wa shinanakya naoranai |

MashikiBalking The Enemy's Plans join:2002-02-04 Woodstock, ON | Any developer worth their salt from the start of a project would give credit, if they're not they're willing to do it again because it's expedient or they don't care. That makes them highly suspect and dubious at best. |
