| "Use default Remote Gateway" Configuring Routing
I currently have a D-Link DIR-130 configured as an L2TP over IPSec endpoint. I can dial in perfectly from a Vista VPN client, either with or without the "use default remote gateway" and access resources on the LAN. However, when I check the "use default remote gateway" box in the vpn client settings, I am no longer able to browse the internet. From the reading that I've done, it seems that this has to do with routing, but I'm not exactly sure what it is that I need to change, or where to change it. Are there settings that need to be changed on the router, the vpn client (or the machine that I'm using the vpn client on)? If anyone can help me out here as far as getting these settings configured, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks |

Then you definitely want "use default gateway" checked on your client. Can you connect to the VPN, open a command prompt, type "route print" and then paste that here? |

| Thanks for the reply. I knew it had something to do with routing...I just don't know what I need to change. Here is a "route print" with the VPN connected and the "use default gateway" checked.
I've attached a copy of an ipconfig with my vpn settings, as well as the route print. For the record, on my local network (the network I'm VPN'ing into), my router(gateway) is 192.168.1.1 and my DNS server is 192.168.1.5, if that helps at all. THanks again for the reply, and if you need any more information I'll get it to you as soon as possible. |

I see your problem. You need to change the LAN or VPN subnet. They are both 192.168.1.x. |

Is there something that I can try from the client side? |

Is there something that I can try from the client side? You have to change the entire subnet of the VPN router. You probably need to do this on the setup tab or something? You either need to change the entire remote subnet from 192.168.1.x or you need your change your client subnet from 192.168.1.x.
On a D-Link I have, you can do this on Setup -> Network Settings -> Router IP Address |
