Well, for starters, the VPI/VCI settings between the two locations are probably different. Does this unit auto-detect them? If it does, it's not working. If it doesn't you have to know the correct values and configure this manually.

I'm not sure if it's auto detected and I've tried from »Ameritech - SBC FAQ »Funhouse info on the original 5100a Modem including how to get at line stats but it doesn't working too because we're using ip 192.168.0.xx. Is there any idea?

The SBC 5100a (060-E141-A01) is pre-configured to only work with eight (8) most popular Virtual Circuit pairs (aka VPI/VCI pairs).

• 0/35
• 8/35
• 0/43
• 8/43
• 0/51
• 8/51
• 0/59
• 8/59

This is seen in the Web Interface only after you add the 5100's MAC ID to the ARP table entries.

»Efficient Networks Forum FAQ »Can I see what the Web Interface of the SBC Customized 5100s look like?

»Ameritech - SBC FAQ »Funhouse info on the original 5100a Modem including how to get at line stats

Otherwise the Web Interface on a 5100 Bridge is not accessible with out the special ARP command as not all 5100 had a Web Interface that you could reach using »speedstream or not unless you manually add the IP of the 5100 Modem to your PCs ARP table entries.

Accessing the Web Management Interface on my SpeedStream 5100 or 5200

The SBC 5100a (060-E141-A01) is preset to »10.0.0.1 and using 192.168.anything will not work as there is nothing at that IP address in the SBC 5100a (060-E141-A01). It is like dialing a phone number that does not exist then expecting it to ring and be answered (its not going to happen).

Yes, it is what i saw when add the 5100's MAC ID to the ARP table entries. Honestly i don't understand much about this so i called the ISP and they sent their tech here yesterday, but they couldn't do anything too. They said they don't know the IP to open the HTML page. So what should i do next? Is my 5100a can't use in Indonesia or any other idea? Or can i change IP 10.0.0.1 to 192.168.xx.xx maybe? Thank you.

You need to find out what the VPI/VCI is for the Indonesian ISP.

You need to know if it is "Annex A" ADSL or "Annex B" DSL. The SBC 5100a only works with "Annex A" DSL.

No, you cannot change the IP of the Modem. It normally doesn't have an IP Address anyway, as the ARP Table entry is not present by default.

VPI/VCI in my country is VPI 0 VCI 35, and using "Annex A" ADSL. I have a router Netgear WGT624 v2 too, Would it be easier to configure my 5100a if i use Router Netgear WGT 624 v2, please help me how to use this ADSL modem with this Router. Thank you

The 5100a is a Bridge Modem and there is nothing to configure. Especially since it already comes with the correct VPI/VCI it would plug into the Telephone Line then sync up showing a Solid Green DSL LED if the ISP has setup your DSL wiring at the Remote or local DSLAM. What do the LEDs show when it is plugged into the phone jack and powered on?

»SBC DSL FAQ »What are the lights and what do they mean?

As to what configuration your Netgear would need depends on what requirements your DSL ISP has to make a connection (Either DHCP or PPPoE). You would have to ask them what type of DSL setup they are using and follow the setup prompts in the Netgear.

What is the DSL LED doing? If the DSL LED is not solid green, then they have not installed the DSL yet. Not Trained means the Modem does not see any DSL Signal.

One other thing to consider........
The 5100a must have the dsl signal on the inner pair of the phone wiring

If the DSL signal is on the outer pair of the phone wiring that needs to be corrected

Switching inner and outer wire pairs on an RJ-11 wall plate

You need your setup info from the ISP. I have no idea if they use Static IPs or DHCP IPs. The 5100a is a Bridge and doesn't have a Router so it only supports one (1) PC. You put your ISP setting into your PCs Ethernet Adapter TCP/IP settings page.

Select your LAN - Ethernet Adapter

Under TCP-IP Properties, either leaving all fields blank for DHCP DSL or fill in IPs supplied by your ISP for your account.

I would say that your friends are just wild guessing and don't really know since 192.168.1.1 is a Private IP that does not route out on the Internet as it is reserved for Home Networks and Private LAN Use.

Call your ISP and get the info, after all you are paying them for service and support. Get your monies worth.
