| reply to KrK That is amazing. A LOT of work. What is most impressive is how he was able to get proportions that well. He shows the milling, lathing, painting, and assembly, but not the amount of planning he had to do! -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | Except if your an engineer or technician. I am sort of in that definition (at least before I got disabled, heh), we love drawings, specs, and the like. One of my favorite tasks was CAD work for lab equipment setups. I got the bug back in college, I took CAD, but never took drafting, something I still wish I had formal training in. -- Join Teams Helix and Discovery. | reply to KrK LOL I was impressed to see this topic. I'm a cnc machinist. I do quoting, programming, cad, setup, and operations. I do work more along the lines of aerospace and defense work. That's all relatively easy work to do given you have the resources like he or I. Mostly time consuming. That's at least 20 hours of labor if your focused. What we can't read in russian is that the cost of the material he's seemlessly cutting from is probably a 400-500$ sheet of extruded billet stock. If its a cheaper aluminum like T351, if he used a cheap steel like 4140 it would be cheaper for the material but tooling cost would go up considering its a bit tougher to cut. Not to mention machining time would more than double since speeds and feeds need to be cut in at least half using brazed stick tools like he's using. -- Supra Turbo INSIDE |
