I'm just stating a fact. Because a lot of Filipinos who have relatives here in the US take advantage of magic jack's unlimited calling feature. I have a friend who has magic jack and she's based in the Philippines and I call her using my cell phone during weekends or during nights. I'm basically calling a number registered here in the US. That's the reason why it's practical for someone who has relatives here. They are able to save a lot of money on long distance calls. At the same time they can talk all day long if they want.

But if I plan to get a long distance service here in the US to make long distance calls to other states. I won't use magic jack. I'll just use my cellphone or subscribe to vonage.

You're the one calling them so you're the one saving NOT them. BTW, MJ users can not call out and stay all day long talking because in a few days their service might get cut off.

MJ isn't really "unlimited" just in case you still don't know -> »So anyone knows how many is "excessive" for MJ?

I believe that cutting off service was a glitch and is old news. From what I understand, magicJack no longer cuts off service if one exceeds a predetermined number of minutes. Even Skype allows 10,000 minutes per month on their 2.95 per month unlimited plan. It would not behoove magicJack to not be competitive with Skype.

That's not true. I remember seeing a couple of reports of excessive use terminations a couple months ago. It sounded like it was handled better than the wave that hit in Oct. 2008. These people had a softphone ad telling them they'd been disconnected, and they could make domestic outgoing calls for 1 cent per minute (paid by purchasing international minutes).

The ToS was also updated to say excessive use is defined as 20x the average. But, no information about what the average is.

MJ should just put a cap on usage like Skype to save everyone else from guessing.

Assuming 30 days in a month, there are 43200 minutes in a month. If you use all of Skype's 10000 minutes, you're on the phone over 166 hours in a month.

I agree with zxt, just put an actual # of minutes/month of actual connect time, and stop being coy. What's average? What's 20X average? Is that whatever somebody feels like at the time?

The problem is that MJ makes money from incoming calls (termination fees). Outgoing calls are a pure loss. So, MJ's "excessive use" probably takes into consideration the ratio of incoming to outgoing.

Someone who makes 2000 minutes of outgoing calls will be more "excessive" than someone who makes 4000 minutes outgoing offset by receiving 4000 incoming.

I can accept that there aren't clear limits. But, there should be warnings. Some way to see where you stand. Like a thermometer, from green to yellow to red.
