[Speed] NYC - I take it we're still having issues with speeds?

My 20mb seems to be maxing out at 8mb. I get tempted to abuse my bandwidth when I don't get at least 13+ (read - my money's worth) - make up for the slow speeds

Depends on how look at it:

1. Speakeasy — Speed Test to DC 14.6
2. Toast - Loaded 754,928 bytes in 0.708 seconds from Yocolo server (8530 kb)
3. www.testmy.net 12697 Kbps or 12.7 Mbps (1550 kB/s)
4. »us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp
File Size 2.9297 MB
Time Elapsed 1.931 seconds
5. »speedtest-hrndva.hrndva.sbcgloba···ge3.html ATT Herndon VA
Download = 14.871 Mbps Upload = 1.485 Mbps
6. »www2.verizon.net/micro/speedtest/hsi/
Download speed 6.799 Mbps
7. CNet 2529.4 kbps

I use this link »cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test for all my testing.

If I ssh into my server and download it I always get around 10MB/s so it should be plenty to test any 20Mbps connection.

Edit - Oh how I wish this was my home connection....

Length: 104857600 (100M) [application/octet-stream]
Saving to: `100mb.test'

100%[========>] 104,857,600 9.89M/s in 10s

I'm leaving my info here because I'm back to seeing crappy speeds again. Both speakeasy and RCN speed test servers are showing 2mb speeds. I notice a significant difference in browsing speeds. Surprisingly upload is never affected

Many folks who report lower than expected speeds tend to be those who pay for 20mbps.

I pay for 10 and almost always get that speed. I just ran a test on RCN's speed site and I clocked in at 10.4 down and .75 up, which I what I'm paying for.

Yeah, not sure what's going on. The only thing I can think of is that I know they're testing Docsys 3. Perhaps it's affecting top tier. It's just quite puzzling to see speeds fluctuate so much. I mean to be a 1/10 of what I should be getting ist just not normal and it has happened enough times since the start of the year that I need to get this sorted for peace of mind

wtf - less than 1mb download. I'm not going to even bother putting RCN speed test results. Downloading a 14mb file at an average of .4mbs

EDIT - I see it's no different than my previous test results.

Has anyone ever got comments from the guys on here? I really don't want to call and ask because it went nowhere the last time.

It seems to happen more often during the weekends than not

Re: [Speed] NYC - I take it we're still having issues with speed

I'm still thinking that this is a result of testing DOCSIS 3

I think it's by neighborhood, or even by UBR load. I've had no issues on this 20MB line in Manhattan.
