[general] Information

Was hooked up to Wildblue last month. Installation was nearly flawless (installer 10 for 10). System was so much better than my dial-up. I'm a senior citizen and have no idea what it's costing me in bandwidth to do things. I have enjoyed using youtube (political humor, etc.) and it appears, based on too many videos (?)I'm being punished for exceeding my bandwidth (nothing loads or now takes forever. I'm back on my dial-up for the moment. There was no email warning nor did the chart I was told to look at change other than to continue climbing on usage. It all slowed at 75% and it's been that way since yesterday.

Question: How long does the punishment last? Does it reset or simple fall below the threshold? Since I was at 75% of my 7.5 (cheapest plan) should I expect that to be my "new" threshold since I was assuming something closer to a 100%?

Most important of all, is there a software that can be installed to measure and keep track of my daily usage based on a rolling monthly limit? Lots of questions and any answer at all would be appreciated. I should add that my tolerance is still high since I've been on 48000bps for years.

Thanks

New users just love that FAP. And then upgrade to the next higher pay level to continue surfing for the next two weeks, instead of waiting for the rolling FAP to lower.

Interesting about the new usage notification. Is that via HiJacking webpages? As in DNS redirects or Deep Packet Inspection, Injection? No one likes those as they can really screw up connections.
So the user instead of going from point A to point B to point C on a webpage, SomeISP's inject point A1 in between for notifications.

You will be FAPed until both your upload and download usage drop below 70% of your usage thresholds. The FAP meter keeps a rolling day of month record of your usage. For example, data that you downloaded on April 15, 2009, will be subtracted from your FAP meter today. Since new customers do not have any usage before they obtained service, no usage is subtracted from their FAP meters during the first month. The punishment will not be removed until at least one month after you obtained service.

Rather than waiting, you can immediately restore your speed by upgrading to a service package with higher usage thresholds.

There is a program named Fapzilla that reads the FAP meter and saves the numerical results in a text file on your computer. You can program Task Scheduler to automatically execute Fapzilla and save the results in the text file. However, Wildblue appears to be in the process of breaking the links that this software uses to read the FAP meter. You can read about the problems in Usage and Using Wildblue.vps FAP Script -- What happened?. A VBS (Visual Basic Script) file has also been written and posted that essentially does the same thing as Fapzilla. I have been using a custom version of the VBS file for the last several months. The output looks like:
