I will not shut down my firewall and antivirus for a speed test.

Concur. Yet that kind of remark to the speed test guy would almost certainly evoke a hostile response. He only likes it if you play the game his way.

But don't let that stopya, Tobi's just looking for some WB folks to test this guys idea about his tests versus NAT servers.

I don't shut mine down either the test seem to sorta work sometimes. They are kinda pretty to look at. I was just hoping to see how differently they performed on Wild blue.

He claims he is gonna make one that will identify packet shaping and the like.

But there needs to be some other people test his stuff.

I tried this and have got mixed results. The download speed test seem to be accurate but the upload test is way off. The other tests seem to give different results each time I test. The upload capacity tests are a total waste of time for me. I didn't turn off anything before testing since I don't for others tests.

Some anti-virus solutions don't play well with speed checking and will skew your results horribly (AVG and Avast to name a couple). These problems are well documented just google for them. As for your firewall, that is suggested because most people are clueless how to control them and performing things such as opening ports that required for testing etc. It's easier just to say "shut them down for the duration of the test". Feel free to operate any way you wish but some features may not work properly if you choose not to follow the instructions.
