Kerrvile, TX 40M+ (DS3 replacement)

Current provider is Qwest for port, Windstream for loop. Location is fiber-fed, got a DS3 off of that. IP space is a few class C's if I remember correctly (doing this secondhand) and would be preferable, though not required, to keep it (probably would mean staying with Qwest as the ISP for the connection).

Link is at about 70% of capacity at last check, so could move to 40 Mbit Ethernet if there was a substantial price difference between that and a DS3. A less expensive link would be the first priority, but a higher capacity one would be nice as well.

Thx in advance for the quotes! If they're high, alternate locations could be considered, though it would require network changes that would only be doable if the price differential was quite high.

Preliminary check of rack rate is: $8,634 per month for a full DS3. However I can check other sources which will take some time. Will get back to you ASAP.

FreedomFire, the quote tool doesn't work without a full phone number, which I don't have. Any other options?

So far best quote is $6250. Loop is a killer here, in case anyone hasn't noticed

Just received back another quote for $6,692 MRC. Checking more...

Additional quote: $5,065.00 MRC.

To clarify, the $5065 quote is for a different address than Kerrville.

Problem now is that there's nearly two years left on the Qwest DS3 contract...wonder if there's any way to get around that if the port is still Qwest...

You don't have a full phone number for that location? Does that mean you don't "have" the building then? Just curious as to why you don't have a full number if you own the site.

Anyway .... just input a valid number that's as close as possible to the actual location (e.g. ssomeone else in the building or an adjacent building). Just be sure to use a valid (sic real) number for the contact phone if there's any questions.

There are many people, and businesses that don't have a POTS line at their location, more so with WISP's and tower locations.

I hope you really aren't surprised by this!

The 'general' rule for Qwest contracts is that if you recontract for 110% of the previous one (10% more $$) you can roll over the liability. That is generallly similar for QC (local dialtone) and QCC (PRI, Internet, etc). That does limit you to Qwest bandwidth though. It might be easier to talk to whomever sold you the bandwidth in the first place.

That is not correct. Land line phone numbers are used to determine local central office which is necessary to develop local loop pricing. That's why we can't use cell phone numbers and VOIP numbers and CLEC numbers because they don't track to the local central office. It's a "garbage in garbage out" kind of thing.

True regarding the CLEC etc bit however most carrier pricing tools work just fine on NPA NXX so you can put whatever you want at the end ie 5555

Not always, some blocks are splity, 0000-3999 could be one carrier, 4000-9999 could be anther, such a real phone number is preferred.

I know this isn't a direct comparison, but here Verizon cells and Nextel use 830-992.. Maybe some VZ landlines too.

Prior to LNP it was more reliable. Even now each landline CO has it's native NPA-NXX that identifies it. It's also called the LSO. For an example 515-243 is DESMIADT near me. If I am getting a quote for any address served from that physical wire center no matter what their real telephone number is I can provide 515-243 and it will be quoted correctly. That doesn't help at all for distance sensitive products like Ethernet over Copper or DSL but is fine for DS1 and DS3.

Have you considere PAETEC, I can get you a quote through them. Please advise

I'm pretty sure I remember a PAETEC rep calling me, and he couldn't give me as good a rate as I could get elsewhere.

I'm on the agent side, he was most likely a direct rep. I can get you better pricing. I also found out that we could use your current Qwest loop if needed, So you would just have to pay the port charge. I can get you one year pricing but three year will be more aggressive. also I will see about getting the instalation waived as well. Would this be o.k. Please advise
