|  Westell phone splitter not working????
We have the westell dsl and recently installed a wireless router. We are only using one phone jack which we put the westell provided splitter and ran dsl on 1 of the 2 split phone line jack and our phone on the 2nd outlet of the splitter.
We have a cordless and a landline phone in the house. The cordless always has static in the background when it is on the splitter. And the landline phone won't even work. Also when someone leaves a message you cant hear their voice only a weird noise like a fax noise or something. help |

| You will probably need to call your telco to have them check. There's a good chance that you have a problem in your house wiring. And note that they might charge for work on house wiring.

Ok and when there is no splitter and just the phone is plugged into the wall it is clear. But right when the splitter is put in and the wireless dsl and the phone are run it messes up. |

First, try a different filter(which you call a splitter). 4 usually come in the box. Make sure you are plugging the modem and phone into the proper sides. If no help, you know it's not the filters.
Second, is your phone a 2.4GHz? If so, no good. Your wireless modem is a 2.4Ghz. You could disable the wireless in the modem and check to see if your phone clears up.
Third, there is a chance your jack has bent pins inside and are touching. I've seen it. Take a look and make sure they are shiny and all four are not touching or look crooked. Try one of those to get started. |

So I tried turning off the wireless router and it was still messing up. I checked all the connections and they were all clean and none were bent. We use a wireless phone in the front of the house that just has a base unit with one wireless phone running off of it. This is the phone that is set up on the splitter with the wireless dsl internet. This phone works when the wireless internet is running but there is slight static in the phone. It is a 5.8 GHz.
Then in the back of the house we have our land line phone. It is plugged into a different phone jack and is where we receive our messages. It uses a corded phone so that we can still use it when the power goes out. It is a 2.4 GHz. Right when I pick up the phone ad listen to the dial tone it does the regular tone for about 3 seconds and then I get the weird sound of a fax or dial up internet sound and I cant dial a number without constantly hearling that sound. Since this is the phone that receives our messages, every time someone leaves us a message, all we hear is the weird noise.

If not, that could be the cause of your problem.
From your description, it sounds as if that land line phone might be killing your DSL (because it is not filtered). Then the DSL starts up again. When it first starts, it may use a high signal level that is adjusted down once the connection is established. And the noise you hear is due to that high initial high signal level.
Okay, I'm just guessing there. Make sure that the land line phone is filtered. Otherwise it is going to cause problems for you. And while about it, check that all phones are filtered.

There is no filter on the land line phone. But The land line just plugs straight into the phone jack in the wall and there is nothing else that plugs in there. So is a filter and a splitter the same thing and is it needed there, cause it would not be splitting anything?
If so should I just get another one of the splitters provided by century tel and plug it into the wall jack for the back phone?
And would I just put the splitter in and then the phone into the phone part of the splitter and then just leave it like that? |

Crockett, TX | Anything that plugs into a phone jack needs a filter (phones, fax, satellite box receiver, house alarm system). So yes, your hard wired phone definitely needs a filter plugged into the jack before the phone. |

Hey yall thanks a lot I got it fixed. It was the problem about a filter not being on the land line phone in the back. I just put a filter on it and now its good. Thanks for all the help guys. |
