| June 1st - Leave Cogeco Day
Well the Day is almost here, and along with our amazingly rapish caps we now get a awesome bonus prize from cogeco! An Amazing price hike again! (sure some people will say its only a couple of dollars, but again like everything from cogeco, what do we gain as a consumer for that money??)
So I for one will be calling them up to cancel my service and switch to Teksavvy (only 1 meg a second, but still better than paying Corporate Cogeco Rapist). I will also be switching my parents service and suggesting any one I can do the same (as I hope you all do) To anyone that stays with Cogeco past June 1st... Good Luck

They can do a qualify based on your current phone number, but if you have Cogeco VOIP, it might be difficult to do. |

@cgocable.net | reply to Lexx You are quite right sir, cogeco does suck. I am also leaving cogeco.
Charging $53 a month for a 60 GB cap is criminally high.
We won't take this lying down! |

| reply to Lexx Talked to Bell and they tell me I can only get 2Mbit in my area for DSL... Teksavvy tells me I'd be lucky to get 3Mbit.. So I'm pretty much stuck I think, might almost be worth even taking the hit to drop to 3 with Teksavvy just for the high cap and not being with Cogeco, ugh.
It really is pathetic how bad the DSL offerings are in my area, not sure if it's distance to the CO or line quality, emailed Teksavvy to ask if they would be able to tell me and see what my chances are of being able to drop Cogeco as soon as possible are.
These changes really are pathetic, the obnoxiously low cap didn't bother me before the UBB and apparently a price increase on the 16th, but it's just a money-grab now, no interest in providing a respectable service, they just want to milk us, definitely taking another option the first chance I get. |

| I have no intention of leaving Cogeco - they have great speed and are very rarely down. I've used Sympatico at a friend's house - the best it's shown is "low signal strength", it's slow as heck and won't let me upload anything without constantly disconnecting me. So, thank you very much for great service, Cogeco! |

| reply to Lexx Well, i used to live in hamilton and i had mountain cable, and recently moved back to st. catherines area with my parents (school is done) and they have cogeco cable, and it frankly sucks.
When i had mountaincable, i had no caps, no throttle, newsgroup access, and everything just worked, without any hiccups or problems.
On the cogeco side of things, not only did i hit my bandwidth limit, i am also noticing slow downs in the peak hours (my parents have been complaining about this for the past year).
All i can say is, that we too are leaving cogeco cable (parents are relocating) and they couldnt be happier to ditch cogeco.
Frankly i am just getting fed up with the high prices for mediocre service, bandwidth limits, mediocre speeds, and throttling. They are just taking advantage of us, the customers, and its BS.
I for one will never be a cogeco customer, but i will gladly be a mountaincable customer (too bad they dont service the niagara region) |

| If you aren't a Cogeco customer, why do you spend time at a Cogeco board?
I have no problem with bandwidth caps. Why should I, who only uses half the cap, pay the same as someone who goes over the cap? It's only fair to make those who go over pay more, or suspend them. |

Do you have any idea how cheap bandwidth is these days and how uncomfortably LOW these caps are? Do a little homework.
By your own logic, if your family only uses "half the cap", then YOU should pay HALF THE PRICE. Why would you draw the conclusion that the rest of us should be "punished" in some way? Go call Cogeco and demand a partial refund. How exactly am I hurting you if my household uses, say, 85GB/month (very easy to do on a 10Mb connection Cogeco provides as standard)? I ask you to once again do your homework when it comes to today's true bandwidth costs.
You do realize Cogeco and Bell compete directly with online media distribution services, no? You do see the foul play here, no? People are moving away from their cable/satellite providers for their entertainment needs and that scares these companies to death. Ask yourself why companies that are strictly Internet providers like TekSavvy are NOT implementing these ridiculously low caps.
You may not be cognizant of today's Internet and the changing face of content delivery, but many of us are. You can try to judge people and their families who choose to embrace change and support the new economy and display ill founded righteousness in the process, but you only reveal your lack of understanding of today's rapidly changing world. |

| How is he an apologist? Because his point of view is different from yours?
said by metrotitan :Ask yourself why companies that are strictly Internet providers like TekSavvy are NOT implementing these ridiculously low caps. Well, right off the top of my head, they don't have the same overhead, maintenance and operating costs as Cogeco has. Now before you inaccurately accuse me of being an apologist, I also don't agree with the rediculously low caps; but Cogeco's business structure is completely different from their competitors which is the basis of one of your arguments and yet you attempt to complain that they should have a similar pricing structure.

Well that's clever... assert that the poster (or anyone else) reveals a lack of understanding and ill founded righteousness in an attempt to trump further opinions that are contrary to yours.
Well, at least the boards will be quieter after June 1st if some of you are truly leaving |
