| 2701hg-b- port forwarding will not work!! help
hi IM not an expert with computers but this is my problem, i have a business with a geovision camera system and i am trying to log onto it from home, so i looked up how to get the remote view going and you have to setup a port forward for port 3550 so i did and it refuses to work. i know i did everything right. i disabled all firewalls on the host computer and it still wont work. so i used one of those open port check tools and it keeps telling me the port is closed. my router is a 2wire 2701hg-b and i went to firewall->firewall settings->selected the computer-> then Allow individual application-> created a user defined application for port 3550 added to the hosted list for that computer and clicked done. and it wont work. i have done it several times now. PLEASE HELP!!! this is driving me crazy because i have another site with same exact setup same router and camera system and it work by doing what i just described. |

| reply to allen1 What is the specific Geovision software that you are running? A quick Google search brings up software that requires ports 80, 4550, 5550, and 6550 all to be open.
# 80 HTTP Port For the Webserver
# 4550 Command Port For the commands that are sent between the interface and the GeoVision system
# 5550 Data Port For the Video Stream
# 6550 Audio Port For the Audio Stream
Another tutorial mentions ports 80, 4550, and 5550. I couldn't find a tutorial that said simply forward port 3550. I have never used Geovision software so I'm not sure if there are other versions that require only a single port.
The 2wire port forwarding features are solid and proven, so more than likely this is a case of not having the correct configuration. Your description of the procedure you used to forward the ports sounds correct. The tools you are using to check if a port is open will only report it as open if it receives some sort of response. If they make a request to a port that does not have a server listening then the request will get dropped just as it would if it were firewalled, so they aren't the best way to troubleshoot a port forward.
The easies way to see if it is a matter of not having all of the correct ports forwarded is to configure the 2wire to place this computer into DMZPlus and then reboot the computer. Check it then.

| reply to allen1 i tried all of these ports with no luck, but i think i may have found the problem, sometimes the computer in question will show as being Inactive under the home network tab even if someone is browsing the internet with it, and the router will show the ip for that comp as 0.0.0.0? how is it possible that its inactive while someone is on the internet with it?? |

| said by allen1 :the computer in question will show as being Inactive under the home network tab even if someone is browsing the internet with it, and the router will show the ip for that comp as 0.0.0.0? Quite odd indeed. I have heard of similar issues with 2wire equipment but have never experienced them myself. Usually when these types of problems are mentioned the computer has a hardcoded IP address, but as I said, I've never personally had this issue. Is the computer IP addy aquired via DHCP? When the router shows the ip of 0.0.0.0 what IP address does the computer actually have?
Obviously the firewall and nat software on the 2wire are aware that the computer is active (or likely don't care) otherwise internet communication would not work, so I wonder what 2wire keys on to determine if a node is active or not in the UI (something with ARP tables???). However, this doesn't explain why the port forwarding rules are not functioning. If the firewall and nat are allowing traffic to/from the node and there is a properly configured rule then that software would follow it. I still recommend giving DMZPlus a shot just to see if that is a possible resolution.
An interesting problem. Let us know if you find a solution. Good luck. -- Assiduus usus uni rei deditus et ingenium et artem saepe vincit |

| reply to allen1 keep me updated and let me know what they say, and yes i have tried dmzplus mode still same problem. when the router shows the computer as inactive the computer still has the same ip as before and works fine. this problem has puzzled me for a while. because when i first setup the port forwarding it everything worked as it should, then oneday stopped. so i reset the port forwarding and it would dont work after that. its driving me crazy lol. i cant understand what the problem is.... is there a way to test this by bypassing the router if the router is indeed the problem? thanks for all the help so far guys |

2 edits | reply to allen1 To get the software version of the 2Wire, simply go to its config screen and under System click on Details. Mine is 5.29.47 with no updates available, but other hardware versions may have other or higher numbered software versions.
Is the camera on the backside of a wireless bridge or router? I am using a Zyxel P-330W in wireless client bridge mode to connect my wired desktop and old laptop (with static private IP's) to the 2Wire. When I connected a laptop from work to the Zyxel and got a DHCP IP from the 2701HG-B, that shows up in the 2Wire Home Network, but it shows it as inactive.
The 2Wire keeps track of active IP's (and port forwarding and manually assigned DNS names) by the MAC address associated with a device, in case the device gets a different DHCP IP. But if you have multiple devices behind a bridge it might see the MAC address of the bridge (it does with my Zyxel) instead of the device behind it.
My WET11 wireless bridge can automatically clone the MAC of a single device behind it. But I don't think it can do that if multiple devices are behind it.
So multiple servers behind a bridge might result in port forwarding or local DNS issues with the 2Wire. |

2 edits | reply to allen1 I'm having the same problem! I reset the 2wire to factory state and now I can't port forward anymore like I used to. The way my network is setup is I have a bridge that's connected to my 2 wire, all my computers are connected to that bridge. The 2wire can detect all devices behind the bridge and assigns them IPs but port forwarding doesn't seem to work at all. Even if I connect to my 2wire's wireless network, I can't port forward to my laptop either. It's like the whole feature doesn't work.
I have 2 sections in my network configuration screen called
1) Public Routed Subinterface
2) Public Proxied Subnet(NAT/Routed)
does anyone know if I have to play around with these?
thanks
PS. This all started to happen when I flashed my 2700HG-B with the 5.29.117.3 firmware from the Teksavvy thread, I'm thinking is it possible the firmware doesn't work on this model correctly? |

1 edit | reply to allen1 Yep same problem here with a camera using Singtel firmware, the port forwarding just does not seem to work even using DMZ mode and all I need to do is forward port 80
Oh and I've done plenty of the port forwarding on this firmware, mine works just fine |
