| I get better download speeds on extreme than warp
on Extreme-I my download is constantly at least 14.9 mbps but spikes to about 30+ mbps once every 2 minutes or so for about 15 secs thanks to powerboost.
When I am runinng warp I get about 18 mbps constantly.
My average download speed for 8 GB files is higher on Extreme-I than Warp. I find this quite odd as obviously my connection has greater potential than 18 mbps since I get such high bursts with powerboost, it could be running at 24.9 mbps constantly I am sure. And why doesn't Warp have the powerboost feature!!
I kind of want Warp for the extra upload speed but it sucks paying twice as much for worse download speeds... |

| Sounds like saturation issues. If you're only able to get a sustained 18mbit on Warp, then that's probably because your node can't handle the increased throughput at this time.
But, with Xtreme, you're able to get the powerboost effect when the node isn't loaded down, particularly on non-peak times. |

| reply to lame I just switched back to Extreme from Warp. The extra money wasn't worth it IMHO. Extreme is better value unless you NEED the extra upload speed and cap. Average speed results on private trackers: (torrents) Extreme 1.5 ~ 2.2 MB/s down, 118KB/s up Warp 2.9 MB/s down, 235KB/s up Speedtest d/l results are skewed from the powerboost option. |

| reply to lame Most Cable ISP's don't offer the power boost with their highest product when it starts to get into the 20Mb+ range as the practical speed limitations on DOCSIS 2.0 start to show up.
When they launch DOCSIS 3.0 you will see the speeds increase. I don't know if DOCSIS 3.0 is yet able to use power boost though.
DOCSIS 3 is getting limited launch in the states. Japan seems ahead in that respect.
You will require a new modem for DOCSIS 3. as well. Motorola 6xxxx and Cisco / Scientific Atlanta are the two I am aware of.
Some companies are offering product of 50Mb and higher (Japan again). Watch for the term "Wideband" as opposed to "Broadband". Wideband = DOCSIS 3.0
Oh yeah, did I mention it will be expensive?
Did I ever tell you about the time I got my first 14.4 modem? |

Shaw has already started their DOCSIS 3.0 rollout. Saskatoon can get the new 100/5 service. I spoke to one of the techs in town and they are almost ready to roll the service out in Red Deer too.
Did I ever tell you about the time when I got my first 300bps modem? |
