Re: how do I open ports 9292 and 9283 on a Westell 7500?

yes, my ISP is Verizon and I have DSL with static IP. The modem went down last week and after several hours with Verizon we got things going again and set up port forwarding for remote desktop access. Today I discovered that I need these additional two ports opened also. I assume that opening these ports to support https is a port forwarding issue, but I can't figure out settings that work and Verizon says they don't provide anything more than "scripts" to follow for port forwarding. Sofaware staff are helpful but it's not their modem so they can't really provide support. If moving this post to the Verizon board is the right thing to do, please do it. I'll take all the help I can get!

I'm going to move you over to our Verizon DSL Forum for some help with this. There are some good people in there so you will be in good hands.

Good Luck.

You should find the User Manual for your router at help.verizon.net > High Speed Internet > Verizon Online > Top Help Topics > topic about User Guides. It has step by step with lots of screen shots.

Thanks for the followup. Actually, after convincing myself that my port forwarding settings were correct but things still weren't working, I did some more research and found that the heart of the problem was that the modem and the firewall/router were performing a double-NAT which was messing up the firewall. By putting the Westell 7500 Verizon DSL modem into bridge mode the firewall now has our static IP and it is functions properly. Furthermore, this makes implementation of a VPN a quite simple.
