catv converter w/indoor antenna

avaltom @comcast.net	catv converter w/indoor antenna have a analog tv with motorola dct2224 from comcast. will this converter support a indoor antenna? during Ike I powered this tv w/generator using rabbit ears without converter as comcast was down.

rendrenner join:2005-09-03 Grandville, MI	Comcasts signal is a closed system broadcast over the cable line. You would not get any usable signal from your cable provider from OTA. Comcast does have a backup system for providing their signal in the event of a power outage, so hooking your TV and cable box to the generator would still give you tv. Exceptions to this would be if there is a severe outage where the cable line is broke, damaged or lying in the street.

The Q join:2008-06-26 Collegeville, PA	reply to avaltom I have a simple manual A/B switch hooked up to my TV set so that I can switch over to an OTA indoor antenna to watch broadcast signals if necessary. A = Comcast converter box B = Digital to Analog OTA converter with indoor antenna source It's helpful if the cable ever goes out or if I want to compare PQ.

Since comcast provides a phone service, they have to have a way to provide service in the event of a power outage. One of the ways this is done is a battery inside the phone modem. The other way is thru a battery backup system for the equipment on the telephone poles. In an area that has above ground service you may see large boxes about the size of a small file cabinet strapped to a pole. This is the power supply ( inserter) for the cable system . It takes power from the power company and drops it down to about 60 - 90 volts. This powers all of the amps and Nodes. There are also batteries inside here in case of a power failure. In extended power outages you may see generators attached to these boxes to continue to provide power after the batteries fail. All of my system guys carry a generaor or 2 in the back of their trucks just in case. Hope that explained the backup system better
