[netopia] Netopia 3347 AT&T FW upgraded to 7.8.1R2. How did it h

Okay, so I have a Netopia 3347-02 (AT&T) that was working great. It still works great, but lately I've been seeing it disconnect way more than usual. It used to be maybe once every 3-4 weeks and now it's about once or twice a day.

So I decided to log into the router and make sure everything is okay. First thing I notice was the Netopia logo was changed to a Motorola logo. Also the footer used to say (c) 2006 Netopia, and now it says (c) 2008 Motorola, Inc. I check to see the firmware and it's up to 7.8.1 R2. I check Netopia/Motorola's site and it says that the latest firmware is 7.6.1 R9. I start talking with a Motorola eAgent, and he says that the latest they have is the 7.6.1R9. I asked him if an ISP can push a firmware upgrade, and he says that it is possible but it's rarely done.

I check AT&T's site and the latest FW upgrades they have is 7.6.0R8. Of course their drivers site looks really old, so I'm guessing they haven't updated it in a long time.

What I want to know is if anyone with a Netopia 3347-02 with AT&T has seen this new firmware 7.8.1R2. I searched everywhere for that upgrade and it seems that no one has seen it. Most users, if not all, have the 7.6.1 upgrade. And if this is a legitimate upgrade, how did it happen? I never used the upgrade firmware feature on the router and the calendar settings have the router check for firmware upgrades only once a month, but does mean that the firmware will install itself?

I'm slowly getting annoyed at the disconnects and I have a feeling that it's from the upgrade. So if anyone can shed some light into what might have happened, please let me know. Thanks!

I have two 3347NWG's in Mississippi, they are both still on the 2006 firmware.

I see that they don't list the 3346N-002 firmware there.

I did find this page: »www.netopia.com/equipment/purcha···ate.html

lev See Profile said that this firmware update caused him some problems. That doesn't mean that it will cause you problems though but it might. »Netopia 3346N-002 crashes after 7.5.1r2 to r10-DP42 update

Oh, well, the update has already been done, but I haven't tried the modem yet. I assume it is possible to downgrade to an earlier firmware version if there are problems.

One frustrating thing about Netopia is their use of all sorts of suffix codes on the model numbers. Makes it hard to determine what version is for what use.

Can you upgrade it with the latest Firmware?

That page seems to be out-of-date, as they show the latest firmware for the 3346N-002 as 7.4.0 R6, but other sites identify the latest as 7.5.1 R10-DP42. After having installed the 7.5 firmware, I don't know if it is possible to go back to 7.4.

The best thing would appear to use the 7.5 firmware for a month or so; if it works OK, I won't concern myself any further.

I'm working with a local business and had their modem setup to use VLANs so that 1 SSID was for public customer access without access to the rest of their network. As of Sunday their network went down. When I restored settings, everything was fine until I tried to re-instate VLAN. That appears to have defininately broken in this version.

I will go and check mine about 4 weeks ago started having problems with our network. Turned out somethings such as the DHCP server settings had changed. Ever since then had problems with anything not directly connected to the modem. I will check the firmware to see if it was updated or not.
