| 1. Do you have a working master socket? 2. is the 'dodgy' wiring coming out of what was an extension socket?
if yes to both of those, unscrew the front of your master socket and have a look at the colours of the wires that are crimped into connectors 2, 3 and 5 of the faceplate. 2 and 5 carry the signals and 3 is the bell wire.
Then buy a replacement extension socket and install over the messed up one connecting the same colour cables respectively to the connectors in the extension socket.
You can buy extension sockets and the crimp tool for the cable terminations online or from BnQ, homebase, Maplin etc. You're after a secondary socket (»www.telephonesuk.co.uk/line_jacks.htm has some photos).
Else, if it is your master socket that is broken, you are not legally allowed to really replace that, well the BT side of it anyway, so you'll need to phone BT or Virgin etc (depending on your provider). |
