Stay with Actiontec M1000, or upgrade to Motorola 3347?

So we've got the 6Mbit package (5120/896 actual) in Elk River, MN, direct from Qwest. Using an Actiontec M1000, Firmware Version: QA02.5-3.60.3.0.8.6-M1000.

Behind that we have a Linksys WRT54GL as our switch. (It's not doing any routing or DHCP, the modem is doing all of that)

I have to power-cycle the modem every 24-48 hours to get our connection working again, after web pages just start stalling/timing out. (Takes multiple reload attempts to get individual pages to load) When it does time out, I can't reach the modem login page, let alone any info on the current status.

Some of it is torrents being run (Ubuntu, OpenOffice.org, and such) that seems to expedite the silent death.

Wondering if purchasing a Motorola 3347 for $100 would give us any performance improvement/not needing to power-cycle things to keep it running, or if it's something on Qwest's end that's giving us these headaches.

Any thoughts?

Have you tried bridging the M1000 to your WRT54GL?

(Some people experience better stability when bridging their modems because the modem no longer has to deal with any of the routing functions.)

Is the process of bridging as simple as it normally would be with other equipment? For example, connect a patch cable from the WAN port on the WRT54GL to a LAN port on the M1000?

No, it's a bit more involved with a DSL modem.

Here is some additional information:

I have both and tried to trouble shoot problems and in doing so I found out that my line from the CO to the Crossbox was damaged over the years by techs installing more lines. They say they'll fix them one day. Soon I hope.

Anyway, in doing so I finally ended up with the M1000 with the latest firmware bridged to my Netgear router and it's great. I have installed the 3347 in the past and for those installs it worked fine. But when I got one myself I found that it lacks features that I have come to need and the M1000 can accommodate them. One thing is there is no POTS jack on it. You'll need a DSL/Phone splitter.

So the M1000 IMHO.

You must have some really specialized needs. I have not worked with the 3347, but I have used the 3346N-002 (essentially the same unit without the wireless); there is a very extensive set of configuration options. Hard to imagine anyone needing more than this.
