| Usenetserver spooling to 400 days!
Glad to see the other newsgroup providers were able to kick usenetserver in the butt and get them to finally upgrade retention. I been so focused on the fight between Giganews and Astraweb that I didn't even notice they are upgrading to 35 days more retention than the other two. Not that it really matters though because I wouldn't trust usenetserver. The only good thing is it adds another competitor! The more the better! Now lets see what Easynews does! |

Highwinds is actually bigger than most provider out there (Giganews might be bigger but not sure, HW either owns or serves a lot of small providers.) They are REAL provider, unlike many resellers. --

Also since their datacenter upgrade from what I have heard the service has been pretty reliable. In the past few years I haven't heard of any serious issue moreover they always had software offerings for providers etc. They were always a solid choice for backbone, I believe. -- [BQUOTE=[user=bicker]]Waaaa waaaa waaaa. The new Virginia server farm has been rock solid since the move last year as well. This is separate from Newshosting though. -- Block Accounts | UseNet Now |

However it still doesn't address your first hilarious comment claining they are "hardly a competition" - as a matter of fact it's quite vica versa: there are very few others out there who can be competitive against Highwind. -- [BQUOTE=[user=bicker]]Waaaa waaaa waaaa. | reply to kamm said by kamm :there are very few others out there who can be competitive against Highwind. What are you basing that on? If you ignore size for a moment, what does it take to be competitive, in regards to Usenet, if you look at it from the end user point of view? If they all get the articles to your computer, with the same speed and features...what makes one competitive? It would seem price is all that is left.
Look at two Highwinds offerings...Newsdemon and NewsgroupDirect....Are there anything competitive about there prices?? You can get everything they offer from others for almost half as much.
Let me put it in even simpler terms for you....WE were not able to compete price wise due to prices we were being charged from them. Taking more control of things has now brought us to having the best block prices on the net.
Don't get me wrong, they are a good company...however to an end user, it is tough for me to see how they come out as competitive. -- Block Accounts | UseNet Now |

| I think UseNetServer is competitive in offering service for $10/mo and $95/yr. Few providers compete with Astraweb on price. For unlimited accounts its Astraweb, UseNetServer and Usenet Now. For block accounts its BlockNews, Astraweb and Usenet News.
