 Shaw blocking all incoming ports?

The last two days, I've noticed I can't access ssh on any ports I try forwarding. I've verified my firewall is working fine, and tried two other boxes (my old pfsense box, as well as dd-wrt and tomato on a wrt54gl.) And I've even changed mac addresses a couple times and left the cable modem off for a half hour, and again for the better part of a day.

I'm not running any p2p traffic or the like. I've spent/wasted several hours trying to find out that the problem isn't on my end.

Does anyone else notice shaw blocking incoming connections? I don't mean p2p traffic/bit-torrent as that is a whole other issue.

I plan on calling shaw later on, so I figure I'd post here first to see if there is some new stuff going on. This way I have more fire power in case they try to play stupid in this matter. That and maybe to make myself feel better that shaw isn't just hating me.

I had some RDP drops yesterday due to a few connection drops but that was it. Lasted for about and hour and after that it was fine.

Not sure what else to say other than to talk to Shaw.

Word on the street is they are blocking a ton of ports in the very near future. Probably the stupidest thing they have done since they started throttling p2p traffic.

If this is the case, and they implement this technique, they immediately lose all of my business with them. I provide remote admin services for home users and use port forwarding as well.

What does Shaw gain by implementing such a strategy??

i like the paranoia here,

if that was actually being implementation by Shaw there would be pages of people having the same problem as you, and Shaw has nothing to gain by doing this, in fact it makes no business sense for them to do it.

so the OP may want to try contacting Shaw and maybe try double checking his equipment because this is obviously just a technical issue.

No kidding... before I started foaming at the mouth about what Shaw has done now I think I'd investigate a bit further.

I'm not about to take a comment from an anonymous user about a comment supposedly made "on the street" about something Shaw may be doing in the future.

If it's true, fine, I'll get annoyed then, if it even affects me. But for now, if I was the OP I'd just call Shaw and get their side of things.

Well, looks like shaw isn't blocking incoming ports now, but most outgoing traffic. http, https and ssh all do not work. ie. www.google.ca does not load, however if I do a traceroute, it tapes a second or so and then spits out the info.

I'll be calling shaw pretty quick here to see if they know what's going on. I don't think they were intentionally blocking ports at this point. Though it could be that they are trying new ways of throttling p2p traffic (and failing, most miserably.) For the record, I haven't been doing any of this for the past week now, and have tried several different firewalls/routers/network cables, etc.

Alright. Just got off the phone with shaw.

Apparently they are experiencing issues with the node my cable modem uses. This explains the VERY funny behavior. They said to call again later this evening, or possibly later tomorrow.

So, they weren't really blocking ports on purpose. It's just equipment acting up.

Just as an off side note for mods. I think this should be left open until the issue is solved and I can verify for sure they don't go and batten down the hatches. I doubt they will, but we'll see.

Right about an hour ago my internet with shaw is working again. Did a speedtest at shaws site, and I get the normal ~20mbit down and a little under 1mbit up.

None of my ports appear to be blocked either (as far as ssh access goes.)

So, as of now everything is working just fine again.

Shaw was blocking all my E Mails a week ago. Outgoing mail could be sent only.
