| Anyone able to pick up WBBM-2.1 now?
About a year ago, we discussed getting WBBM's HD channel over the air.
»Anyone able to pick up WBBM 2.1?
To recap, I've got a Winegard HD7080P antenna in my attic in Glenview, and receive strong signals for all the other Chicago channels, including WLS at its new digital frequency of 7, which is also an upper-band VHF channel broadcasting from the Sears Tower (soon to be called Willis Tower).
The exception, is WBBM at its new frequency of digital 12. On my DIRECTV HR10-250's on-screen meter (hardly the best tool, but effective enough to show basic strength) I've been getting just about the same numbers I did when they were on digital 3.
I'm getting a slightly stronger signal on WLS since noon Friday, averaging around 86 versus the 83 I was seeing a year ago when they were on digital 52.
So I'm wondering what results you're seeing on WLS and WBBM, and where you're located. |

1 edit | I hear 3 channels moved: CBS from 3 to 12 (No problem with reception here, in Skokie) ABC from 52 to 7 and WGBO
I assume you re-scanned your display or box?
It is interesting to note that both CBS and ABC were mis-ID'd with channel numbers on the DTVPal we have.... Instead of 2-1, the Pal says CBS is 77-01 Instead of 7-1, the Pal says ABC is 78-01
(I just got an email from someone with a DTVPal + model... and same thing happened to him!)
Except if you enter 2 or 7, it goes to the right channel, though displays wrong channel number information!!!!

1 edit | Hmm gives me an idea of rescanning my TV since channels are in new places. I see 2 and all of channel 7 are nothing. 7-1,2, and 3 are missing [EDIT]
After rescanning I was able to get channel 7 now but still no channel 2 where ever it may be now. They already suck in ratings for the 10 o'clock news, imagine their ratings now that nobody can pick up their digital signal. |

| reply to lev Location: Round Lake Beach, near Rollins and Lotus
Antenna: attic-mounted Rat Shack U-75R UHF only
Pre-Amp: Viewsonics VSA-601c 52-1,000 MHz 15dB
Coax: CommScope RG-6 appx. 30' from attic to basement & 2x drops ~40' to TVs.
Splitter: PCT Genesys II 2-Way -3.5 dB loss on each port.
The nitty-gritty...
WBBM was never even a whisper on 2 or 3, pre-transition...
Still no sign of it 0n RF 12, with a CM-D2A or a DS DTX9950
WLS was fairly consistent with occasional dropouts on RF 52 and very poor on analog 7.
I don't catch even a whiff of RF 7 DT after rescans with either box today.
WCIU... reception was mediocre at best on RF 27, pre-transition. Signal strength was 0 to 35ish with the DS and 0 to 45ish with the CM. Analog 26 could only be described as the blizzard from Hades.
I can no longer pick up RF 27 after rescans with either box.

1 edit | reply to Jan Janowski Jan, I did a clear and then a scan, and later on did another scan. But my tuner has a frequency signal section that will let me select any channel, scanned or not. That is why I said I can see low signal.
I can still get WBBM HD via DIRECTV's signal, so it doesn't affect me. However, methinks they have a bigger problem. Could you explain the ongoing love affair with VHF? Even if it is the upper band, wouldn't UHF have made more sense? |

1 edit | reply to lev Signal strength on new 7-1 and 2-1 both are higher on new channels than they were on older channels here (Skokie)
Checked on 2 different version receivers... V2 and V4 (I think converters are V4 tuners).... Both agree.
On a DTVPal converter box 2-1 went from high 80's on CH3 -- to low 90's on CH12. 7-1 went from high 80's on CH52 to high 90's on CH7. -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

My WLS/WBBM results are the exact opposite of yours, except my WBBM is far worse than your WLS. |

| reply to lev I have lost both channel 2.1 and 7.1. And yes, I did rescan.
This is Geneva, around 38 miles west of the loop. I am using an attic antenna - both a VHF and a separate UHF antenna.
When WBBM was on channel 3, the reception was usually good except during a severe lightning storm. Now there is nothing. I can get set the receiver to manually check the signal strength on channel 12, but it is getting nothing. Channel 7 has a similar problem. Most of the other channels are fine. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.10 |

| reply to Jan Janowski said by Jan Janowski :Signal strength on new 7-1 and 2-1 both are higher on new channels than they were on older channels here (Skokie) I noticed that too on my T.V in the bedroom on ground level but the T.V down in the basement which had no problems picking up 2.1 can no longer get it after the transition. Its strange that it seems to be a stronger signal according to the strength meter on the aforementioned T.V |

| reply to lev I'm in Arlington Heights, 60005.
All Chicago DTV channels come in fine pre- and post-conversion with my rooftop Winegard antenna (I forgot the model number, but I bought it in mid-2007).
I also have an older VHF/UHF antenna in the attic that was left by the previous owners of my home. It's connected to a TV in the bedroom, with about 25 ft of coax from the antenna to the receiver. All DTV except WBBM came in fine pre-conversion; WBBM didn't even register on the converter's signal strength meter.
Post-conversion (and post-rescan), WBBM registers on the meter and comes in, but very choppy. It's almost watchable, but still nowhere near the quality of the other stations.
I'm going to climb into the attic and move the antenna around to see if it makes a difference.
The DTV converter boxes are an Insignia and an Apex. The problem is consistent when I switch the boxes on the TVs-- the attic antenna can't get WBBM clearly. |

I spoke to a guy in Pennsylvania who sounded just about smart enough to tie his shoes, and he was bumming that everyone there was getting laid-off because nobody was calling.
After looking it up, he told me that they're changing something in the transmitter, and I should try to rescan again after 7:15 tonight.
So I will, and expect little to nothing. |

| reply to VegasMan So I finally had time to do that recscan. I had blocky picture, which was an improvement. Then I went to the meter.
Tuner 1 of my DIRECTV HR10-250 was showing a signal between 88 and 90 for WBBM! Tuner 2 was running between 0 and 50. Both an improvement.
Then I signed on here, and tuner 1's signal went dead. Tuner 2 stayed the same. Tuner 1 still works great on WLS, and all the Sears-based UHF channels.
Are there any actual talented engineers working for WBBM? |
