@bellsouth.net

What are the settings to make WildBlue work on another PC?

We have plugged WildBlue into a PC that's never had WB before. The lights on the modem are on and correct, but it's not working on my friend's PC.

What are the connection settings we have to make so it works on my friend's PC? I'd also like to know this for myself for when I get a new PC in the coming months.

Double Click Network Connections either on your Start menu or on the Control Panel. Then run the New Connection Wizard

We did that. Creating a new broadband connection didn't do anything.

What operating system is on the computer that will not work with WB?

Well, there can only be one at a time. Was there another broadband connection already configured on that computer? If yes, delete that one, plug in the HughesNet modem, start over.

So what your saying is he needs to switch to HughesNet to get his internet working on his other computer? JK

Hopefully you were trying to be funny, because that's nowhere near what I was trying to say. The Windows New Connection Wizard is apparently not creating another broadband connection on his friend's computer - until the existing one is deleted. The logical conclusion would be to delete the existing connection, then run the Wizard again - this time describing the Wildlube parameters.

Some have asked about mixing equipment on the forum here in the past -- it definitely will not work to try and connect a hughsnet modem to wildblue outdoor equipment aimed at the wildblue satellite. I was also going to tease you about putting a subliminal ad in there.

If the OP will tell us which version of Windows he is using, we can give him basic instructions. Start with the basics:

Is the bottom light on the WB modem on indicating that the modem is successfully communicating with the computer and the cable is good?

If it has them, what are the green and amber lights at the Ethernet connector on the computer doing?

Is an Ethernet card or port installed on the computer?

Is the power saver configured to power off the Ethernet card?

Does the "Network Connections" window display an entry for "Local Area Connection"?

Is "802.1p Support" enabled?

Is "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" enabled?

Is an IP address being assigned to the computer?

In "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties\General" is "Obtain an IP address automatically" selected?

In "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties\General" is "Obtain DNS server address automatically" selected?

Is DHCP enabled?

There's more....

You're absolutely correct, I got sloppy. Should have said "plug in the Wildblue modem, start over".

Maybe try power cycling the WildBlue modem. I know with it connected to a Linksys router sometimes the router doesn't pick up the WAN connection unless you power cycle it, worth a try.
