Niagara Falls DSL speeds?

HI guys,

Anyone in, or have friends in the Falls that knows what the DSL speeds are like around here? My address is about 11,000-12,000ft from the Bell bunker on Victoria.

I gather our exchange isn't the most up to date, which is one of the limiting factors.

Guess what I really want to know is anyone at all in the Falls getting better than 3Mbit.

I'm seeking alternatives, Cogeco has cap issues, price issues, support issues, billing issues, service issues and attitude issues, been rolling down a shallow hill for the last 3 years, but they just jumped off a cliff with the hard capping and price increases as far as I'm concerned... but whatever the ISP (teksavvy looks favorite) unless I can get a reasonable speed I'll have to suck it up with cogeco and wait to jump in on the eventual class action suit.

thanks for any info,

Andrew

That's about 3.5 km, according to my calculator. Your wire might be longer, since it joins other wires in a bundle and adds a bit to wire length.

Assuming 3.5 to 4 km wire length, you should be able to get 3 Mb/s synch, maybe a bit more.

i just realized, is there only ONE central office terminal at Niagara Falls?

if so, my connection might be EXTREMELY UGLY!!! =(, Victoria is HELLA far from my place

But in any case, I will test it first before judging

so at Dunn and drummond getting 2500/668

not too bad, you will probably get a better test hence 3mbp should be no problem

cheers

There very lousy depending on where you are.

As mentioned in here already there is only one CO on Victoria. There are remotes near Main and Ferry area, Drummond and Mcleod that I know of.

Many areas are on the fringe of signal. Between Victoria CO and Thorold Stone there are no remotes so the farther you go out from Vic CO till you get to Thorold Stone road the worse your sync gets. I assume there is probably a remote somewhere else in the north end but I don't know where.

so if there's a remote at McLeod and Drummond, shouldn't I be getting really great speeds?

How do I go about getting Acanac to get me on a remote? or are they reserved for Sympatico customers only?

Have 5 connections in Niagara Falls - every one of them is 6012/800 fastpath (all business lines). They are at McLeod/Dorchester, Portage/O'Neil, Victoria/Armoury and Willoughby Dr (Chippawa) - all but the Victoria/Armoury are on remotes. The McLoed/Dorchester was installed years ago, before the remote, and only used to get about 512/256 interleave; remote went in within the last year, and now I'm 6012/800 fast on that one. All 5 are wholesalers.
