Text Messages - Blew my Mind

I was reviewing phone upgrades and reading customer reviews when I came across this post.

"I have had this phone about two weeks and I love it, I am a 15 year old kid and I have around 17,000 texts a month and this phone is great for texting."

If this is even possible it blew my mind to say the least.

The tweens these days, twentish + teens, will have im conversations instead of talking, and the more ironic part is that these sms conversations can cost more than talking more than a few minutes on the phone while taking three times longer if they are not free.

I don't like them for their 140 character limit, but these tweens will go back, and forth with parts of conversations all the time that might only be a few characters. They don't care as long as they are free with a plan, or somebody else is paying the bill.

He's lying.

»Texting Champ Winner
This person just won a competition and she [only] sends/receives 14,000 monthly. I doubt your guy sends 17,000.

I just peeked at my 13 year old son's text usage for last month....

Text Unlimited 13,009

He cant text at school and has to stop texting at 10pm each night. Sending/receiving 17000 would seem trivial for someone who tried.

Just did a quick google search, this gal had 41,600 ... »www.switched.com/2009/01/22/girl···e-month/

And this guy holds the world record with 182,689 ... »www.engadget.com/2005/05/11/indi···e-month/

I would assume yes. It's only 400 texts a day. I've never been more than 10k but I can see it being done. Mine has gone down now that I'm using BBM all the time.

It's hard to believe 13k a month since his kid isn't allowed to text at school and has to stop at 10pm at night. That only gives him 7-8 hours a day.

imagine the parent that called me recently, who's teenager somehow called in and removed the text message block, but DID NOT add a text package, so each text at .15 was billed out. IIRC it was somewhere like 11k text. you do the math.

and that text "champion" got like a $50k check? I'm in the wrong line of work....

Forgot all about this post.... the 13k is correct, I have no reason to lie. He also plays travel baseball and basketball, so he doesn't sit and home texting all day (although he is always texting when he is at home or in the car).

I have an ex who would burn through 20k a month. I never got above 10k but I wouldn't reply to lots of texts.

I am now a recovering texter, having only sent or received 103 texts last month.

14k is good amount of texting for someone that age. i seen upwards of 40k texts before. but 8-15k is pretty normal anymore.

The winner of a competition showed she could text that much in just 2 days. these kids get 30 days to do the same, and school/bedtime doesnt stop them from texting.

Yet another reason my kids won't get cell phones except prepaid phones for school trips.

The most I've ever sent/received in a month was around 3000. That was before I started buying smartphones instead of just flip phones. Nowadays it's around 100-300.

Geeze...I used to bitch when my emails would average 12,000 a month.....(and I do mean I would get 12K emails a mth).

My wife and I WISH our daughter would call more and text less, we have 3200 minutes banked...and ATT won't sell us a less per month-minute plan in our part of the us....

Wow, and I thought my 200-300 a month was extensive... Although I've always been careful since only recently (within past 2 years) have I had a text messaging plan. Before that it was pay as you go and mommy and daddy didn't pay for my cell phone service like a vast majority of people tweens+teens+twenties. I know people who have graduated college and their parents STILL pay their cell phone (and car insurance, and daily living expenses). [/rant] Sorry.

But yes, 17,000 texts a month... thats... pretty impressive.
Thats 566/day (more than I send/receive in a MONTH!)
23/hour
Thats almost a text message every-other minute... and thats in a 24 hour time period! I assume that kid gets at least SOME sleep.
