Netbooks

I need to get a netbook for a family member who will only surf the most basic of webpages and check email. Decent battery life is preferable. Any opinions on these or would Best Buy have something better?

Same here....My daughter has limited funds and wants a netbook for surfing the web, and especially running MS Office for her school work. She's trying to keep the price under $400. Any suggestions to a netbook that will meet her needs would be appreciated.

Why not get a Dell Mini 9 and install OSX on it?

Go for the Asus 1000HE. I believe it has the longest battery life of all the Netbooks. At least, i've gotten mine to run for about 8 hours of the 9.5 they advertise. Built-in bluetooth is really nice as well as I don't need to fiddle with a dongle for a cordless mouse.

I've had mine for about three months now and never had a problem.

Thanks for the suggestions....but will either of these (the Dell, and or the Asus) run MS Office without a problem? She really only needs Office for Word, and Excel.

One big thing that needs to be done is to get them to look at / try to use it before buying to see if they like the small screen?

Yup, I had that planned already. Going to Best Buy today or tomorrow but will probably buy one online since they're most likely cheaper.

If prices are the same, what place is better, Newegg or Amazon? I'm worried about dead pixels or anything like that. I think newegg won't return it for a couple dead pixels but I don't know about Amazon.

FWIW, I've returned a 23" Monitor to Newegg for one dead pixel. No questions asked.

We have the Acer Aspire One and it is awesome. battery lasts forever! Runs extremely fast, I was surprised! Wifey uses it for her business and does office stuff, graphics editing(minor stuff), database things, inventory, POS, etc. and it does it all flawlessly. She even plays some of those online BigFish game thingies with no issues.

FWIU, newegg is pretty strict about pixel problems now.
