[BC] Siemens Gigaset SE567 shutting down then repowering

I have a problem with my Siemens Gigaset SE567. It has a tendency to shut off, turn back on and get us recoonected back to the net. I don't think it should be dropping us like that. Sometimes dropping 6 times in 3 minutes. arg

Is this set buggy?
are there settings to change to get 'stable'
Is there something that will stop the modem from doing this?

any other thoughts on the set, let me know. I want my old reliable dsl modem back. It never dropped me.

Disable the wireless and see if the problem goes away.

I had a conflict of rebooting when the wireless would scan for a new channel. It should of gotten to Silicon heaven a long time ago.

Otherwise call support and ask for a Thomson modem. And get your own better performing router.

ok so i did the speedtest just for the fun of it. 3953Kb/s down, 504 Kb/s up, and latency to selected server 128ms.

In addition to my previous post, I am wondering if there could be ethernet card problems with the siemens gigaset se567?

The Java based test here is the preferred one as the flash test shows the speed being too slow(for me at least).

Usually on other places where people have posted their speeds(from DSL Reports), I have seen the same differences as mine between the two types of tests.
Both here are to San Francisco.

I can't even find the english manual to this device to even try to change anything.

anyone know the ip to type in? my previous one used 192.168.0.1

the siemens doesn't use that one.

ok, they sent me a new replacement modem of the same model. same thing happens. shuts down. so they sent me the thomson single port modem. arg. it does the same thing.

could something from one of the computers cause the set to reset?

is there something on the line that could cause it to reset?

I should also mention that they increased the overhead limit so that it wouldn't top out. I am paying for 15 and they have it set at 22 just in case.

thanks for the link on the old set. won't be able to try it tho.

here is the new test for the new modem

You are paying for 15 and getting 4.5?!?!?! I am just reading this wrong....or are you not getting your speeds?

I need a little more info:

Is the modem turn on and off (IE: Powers off then back on)?
Are you losing sych (check the DSL and internet lights)?
Does it do this when you're plugged into the LAN?
If it does not, is the wireless dropping on other computers?

If it's turning on and off by itself, check the power cord, is it damaged at all? Are the connections firm?
If it's losing sych, does it re-sych after you reboot it? Check the phone cable going to wall, is it damaged at all? How long is it (needs to be less than 10 ft)? Are the connections at both ends firm?

all 3 units are new appearing with new cords being power and cable. line going to box from outside is brand new as well as the box.

the siemens both would appear to lose all lights sans power. Unsure if there is power being lost to it.

it boots back up and connects almost right away. I have turned off 2 of 4 computers to narrow down interference.

all power and ethernet lines have been moved to decrease electromechanical interference(or at least lessen).

Does the power light turn red and stay red while the modem is in fault?

ALL the lights on the Siemens are going out? Maybe there's not enough power at the electrical outlet. Test the outlet, or try running an extension cord from another room.

here is what happened today. Just for clarity on the subject, I placed my little digital camera on the devices after a couple of disconnects. I knew it was going to happen again.

here is what I found:

power light stays on and green. all of the other lights go out.

Telus support came by and redid what the previous support did, and a little more.

He took out the little old grey box and placed the line into the newer of the grey boxes with a filter. separated the line so that the line going to the modem is dedicated adsl. I don't need to run the filters anymore. I won't be able to see how he did as I am at work.

He also went onto the street and removed the one 'T'. So whoever else is on that line should have better service as well.

He, like the previous tech, said that everything should be fine. I believe him...lol

we'll see.. I also have a choice of what modem to keep and send back. do i keep the thomson or the siemens? I already bought a router for the thomson.

so the second tech came out upgraded the protector, installed a POTS Splitter, used a dedicated pair to run back to the modem, and removed a bridge tap. The first tech didn't do this? Shame, shame, those are the first things he should have done. Keep the Thomson and use your router.

It sounds like he installed a splitter. The inline phone filters are low pass filters that block out the higher frequency ASDL signals from going to the phone circuits. The splitter contains both low pass and high pass filters that separate the 2 signals. The only way to fly IMHO.

It sounds like he removed a bridged tap. When the installer drops a service to your house, he is supposed to (but doesn't always) disconnect the line that carries on. It is not that it is connected to anyone else; it simply acts as a antenna that picks up unwanted noise.

No decision there. Telus has managed to turn a perfectly good router (Siemens SE567) into a piece of crap by severely restricting access to it.

However, it stops users like me saying "Hmmm. I wonder what this setting does" and screwing things up.

thank you for all the replies...

if defence of the first tech, he did the 4 year course in 3 weeks. They must have needed help badly

quote me"all lights sans power" i meant that all light went out except for the power.

currently, 24 hours later, i have not had one disconnect. So things are looking up. I will do a speed test later on today(about 8 hours from now)

thanks all.
