Volume problem on tv

I have fios service on my tv and have the same problem with all movies. The dialog is low and music/special effects sound is always 10 times louder. I constantly have to lower the volume for music scenes and raise it back up for dialogue. Help! please!
thanks!

OK what is you STB set to output. 5.1 will not sound right on a 2.1 set. If you change the aidio output to standard stereo the problem will likely much diminished though movies always have higher dynamic range than standard often even compressed standard TV.

Meaning movies have quieter lows and higher highs, where as standard TV tends to be alll concentrated in a narrow volume range.

Also why many think ads are louder... many are compressed alll into a very narrow range at the high end.

Re: Volume problem on tv

Fios doesn't automatically compress the audio signal, and if you're using any digital audio like hdmi, optical, or digital coax your tv/audio receiver must have it's settings changed for the audio dynamic range compression. If you're using the coaxial for video/audio, or rca for audio you can enable the dynamic range compression on the box.

Does your TV have any "fake" surround modes or any other type of so-called audio enhancements? If so, go into your settings and make sure they are turned off.

Change the sound compression. I put my on heavy - under the menu -> settings, go into the audio settings area, and you should see an option for compression. Put it on heavy and that should get rid of your problem.

Had same audio problem for a long time; then my son said to take the TV off of "Surroundsound" (only good if you have a surroundsound system with speakers). Problem went away.

Actually, that's supposed to sort of "simulate" (although it doesn't) surround sound using two speakers. It has a widening effect on stereo separation, but also tends to lower everything that is equal on left and right, such as dialog.

I personally don't like any fake surround modes such as these, no matter what the situation.
