Weird Disconnect Issue

OK this is going to sound really weird to most of you and I know that...

I play games on a site called Pogo and sometimes I liked to stay parked in a room overnight because of how full some of them always are. Here lately I have been getting disconnected at some point while I'm sleeping and when I wake up I realize this because I can't chat in the room or anything.

I don't have any disconnect issues anytime otherwise now, and sleep at different times so this doesn't always happen at the same time. I was just wondering if someone could tell why the disconnect is happening by looking at the modem connection stats.

The log data you posted does not show (or if it does, I don't see it) what kind of PPPoE session you are using. Your modem will probably give you choices similar to those shown below. You will probably want to choose Always ON. If you are actually dropping your connection (again, there is no way I can tell from your log posting if you were actually disconnected) rather than the web server simply timing out your session, that might help.

I see two disconnects for "failed echo test"
PPP-1 down: Remote failed echo test
PPPOE: PADT Sent

and one for no sync
PPP-1 down: No Sync

I always keep it set to Always On.

It could be Pogo cutting me off in this particular game even though they don't notify people like they do in other games.

The entire posted log sequence appears to me to be for a 29 second period beginning with "00:00:00:00 --Device restarted--.

That does not tell me when the sequence started, and/or if it happened while the modem had been connected for several hours. Perhaps the problem is that the OP's modem is actually randomly rebooting, but I can not state that for a fact without knowing if that reboot was self generated or initiated by the OP. The OP did not say that the modem was rebooting on its own, only that the connection to a game server was terminating. Perhaps your between the lines decoder works better than mine.

It would help to know if the "--Device restarted--" log entry happened on its own, or if you manually restarted the modem (and when did the game server disconnect occur in respect to the modem restart).

What I see in the log you posted is that it took a couple of retries to make an initial connection (although it connected within 30 seconds) and that it has been up for 5 days, 22 hrs: 27 mins: 45 secs.

If your only symptom is that your are being dumped from a game server after a period of inactivity, but everything else works, the most likely cause is that the game server is simply dumping you after a period of inactivity.

One thing you can do to troubleshoot is to open a command prompt window and do a continuous ping to att.yahoo.com to see if that drops when your game server drops you. The command (assuming that you run Windows) would be ping -t att.yahoo.com. If the ping test also loses the connection, then your internet connection is dropping, if not, then the game server is just dropping you. Since this apparently happens only after an extended period of inactivity, you may want to modify the ping test command to ping -t att.yahoo.com > pingtest.txt. If you do this, you will not see anything displayed on the screen for the ping test, but the results will be saved in the file "pingtest.txt".

You can also setup Line Monitoring here at DSLR to see if your connection is actually dropping (although since it polls in 10 minute intervals, it may not detect a dropped connection that immediately reconnects).

My problem is similar, except for the fact that my disconnects are EXACTLY 3 hours apart, almost down to the minute. I've got my modem set to Always On, and it still does it.

Here's what the log shows everytime it gets disconnected

Not really similar, since your log clearly shows that you are losing your DSL connection. The reason for the drop will need to be determined by further troubleshooting. You probably should start your own thread rather than having two counterproductive conversations going on in this thread.

It just happened again while I was online. I didn't restart the modem at all it did it by itself.

Then you have your answer, you have a problem with the modem. There is nothing external (except power) that would cause the modem to spontaneously reboot.

I just got my previous Motorola 2210 replaced another a few weeks ago because the previous one I had was on it's way to a slow death. I've never seen such a crappy model modem before. I'm going to call about this one spontaneously rebooting and also see if I can find where my old Westell modem is hiding.

I just wanted to get a 2nd opinion on thinking it was the modem doing this before I called.
