[shared] hosting files on two servers fail over?

Here is my hosting situation:

Spikedhosting 20GB of monthly trasnfer
Webhosting Buzz 100GB of monthly transfer.

I recentlly started running into the bandwidth ceiling on Spikedhosting but I really do like spikedhosting because its faster for downloads and stuff (I podcast)

So right now I have my webpage banzaibeat.com directed to spikedhosting.com's nameservers can I go back and add webhosting buzz's name servers for three and four?

My thought process is if I upload current flies on both servers if one hits a bandwidth limit the other server can pick up where one can't?

Is this possible or am I just being optimistic? I really don't want to move my podcast website back to webhosting buzz because they are slower but give me a better amount of bandwidth like this month the # of listners has grown by leaps and bounds.

Thanks everyone.

I assume these are shared hosting packages, and not your own VPS/Dedicated server?

If one hit the bandwidth limit, you'd have to change the IP, or the nameservers manually with your registrar, to point to the other server you wanted it on...and it wouldn't be instant, I think there may be some downtime...since DNS will have to pick up the new IP.

There is one way I can think of doing this, if you have access to the DNS on spikedhosting. Say you have a setup like this :

domain.com and your set the registrar to do ns1.spikedhosting.com, and ns2.spikedhosting.com, and you hit your limit, with WHM, you could quickly (still manually) change the WWW ip address on DNS to the other shared IP address on webhosting buzz.

If you want load balancing, you are looking at something a little more expensive then what you would probably want to spend....or cloud hosting.

Damn ok I thought it wasn't as cut and dry. I don't have access to DNS on Spiked. Problem is this is a one time thing typically I use 4 to 6GB a month but I had a longer show and the file size was much bigger than normal.

Problem is the end of the month isn't for a week and I'm already sitting @ 80% usage after an upgraded BW amount (12 to 20)

grr this is irritating.

EDIT: Well I know what i Need to do just offload the files elsewhere on a different server (Buddy has one) and edit my RSS feeds redirecting to the new download locations.

Thanks everyone.

May want to ask spiked to up your bandwidth...or 'threaten' to leave. They should be able to help you out.

OR you could get on a web host that can give you more bandwidth all together.

Hmm I may have too, problem is I pay a yearly rate and when I break it down its only 5.25 a month so maybe I'm expecting too much. I've been with spiked for a year and half now about.

This is the only problem I've had honestly.

understandable, cost is usually the biggest factor.

I wish I had an easier way for you! Maybe host all of files from webhosting buzz, and the actual site from spikedhosting?

yep doing that now uploading the episodes to the other server.. Just annoying is all really. I want to dump Webhosting buzz next year when my time with them comes ahead so maybe I might be shopping around again early next year.

Thanks ViVi!

No problemo!

You could always consider a CDN.(content delivery network).

It's pretty cheap :

$0.170 per GB – first 10 TB / month data transfer out
$0.120 per GB – next 40 TB / month data transfer out
$0.100 per GB – next 100 TB / month data transfer out
$0.090 per GB – next 100 TB / month data transfer out
$0.080 per GB – next 250 TB / month data transfer out
$0.070 per GB – next 250 TB / month data transfer out
$0.060 per GB – next 250 TB / month data transfer out
$0.050 per GB – data transfer out / month over 1,000 TB

The other thing you could do is write/download a script that load balances for you based on used bandwidth. Or since you have 5 times as much bandwidth at Host B, have it choose host B 5 times for every one time it chooses host A.

I didn't think a script could do that, where would you find something like that?

To be honest, I don't know where you would find a premade one to download, I wrote a custom one in PHP for a video streaming site that balances between mirrors based on their current bandwidth usage (mbps) and server load levels.
