Disconnects Every 30 minutes to an hour

1) Which AT&T DSL Package do you have –
Basic (768kbps down), Express (1.5Mbps down), Pro (3.0Mbps down), Elite (6.0Mbps down)

Elite

2) Which modem brand and model do you have? (if Speedstream 5100, does it have 4 or 5 lights)

5100 5 lights

3) Are you using a router? If so, provide the brand and model.

Dlink DI-524
4) Is your PPPoE login info (username & password) entered in the modem, in your router or do you use PPPoE software?

modem

5) Describe the lights on the modem when the trouble occurs.

Connection drops when I check the modem it seems to still have the first 4 lights up, but when I go to the modem page it says the connection is down and that it is attempting to reconnect.

6) Confirm that you’ve checked to ensure that ALL devices plugged into the wall jacks serviced by your DSL phone number (except the DSL modem) have filters fitted.

Check

7) Confirm that you’ve powered off the modem and started it again and whether or not that made any changes with your problem.

Did not seem to make any differences

8) Do you hear any type of noise on the DSL phone line or any other unusual telephone symptoms?

Negative

9) Provide line stats as follows…

a) From Speedstream 5100b, 4100, 4100b -- Go to this address with your browser – »192.168.0.1/statistics.htm and copy/paste the contents of the first two tables into your post

Line State UP
Modulation ANSI
Data Path fast

To Modem To Internet
Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 6016 768
SN Margin (dB) 13.5 -
Line Attenuation (dB) 21.0 -
Loss of Signal 0 -
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 2 4

When the connection is up the speed is fine, however for whatever reason the connection keeps dropping, It started happening earlier today.

edit: I live in the OC/Irvine area of California, in case other people are having problems too.!

Here is my modem log in case that helps

Edit: Are you using the "Always attempt to connect" setting?

Have you ever checked the modem diagnostics page: »192.168.0.1/diags.htm during a connection drop to see which tests show fail?

This seems to be some sort of authentication failure. You might also see if your router can hold the connection more reliably as a test by placing the modem in "PPP on computer" mode and entering your ID/PW into the router.

If the router works reliably, then your modem has a problem. If both drop the connection, then AT&T has a problem and you would need to post a thread in AT&T Direct: »/forum/sbcdirect

Ethernet pass
ADSL pass
ATM fail
PPPoE fail
Authentication fail
IP skipped
DNS skipped

Thats what happens when the internet light starts blinking, the net dies first and it takes the modem some time before the internet light actually starts flashing.

As for the connection type in config it is currently set at Smart Keep Alive.

Another thing I noted was that the router could not successfully connect when the PPP was on the router. Although I may have tested it in a period where the authentication server was having problems in general.

edit: I just had a period where even the modem itself could not connect and the internet light would keep blinking then go red for a good 10 seconds I would say then start blinking again. After about 10-15 minutes of this the modem finally connected. I'm going to keep my computer directly connected to the modem and see if it drops again.

edit2: Well damn as soon as I went to hit Post Now the connection decided to drop once again, this time the modem was directly connected to the computer. So I can assume it's not the router interfering. It's doing the blinking to red to blinking thing again. Alright it was down for a full 17 minutes before it finally turned solid green again.

DSL UP
Connection DOWN
Attempting connection

edit3: It dropped again and got this result
Ethernet pass
ADSL pass
ATM fail
PPPoE pass
Authentication pass
IP pass
DNS pass

Check ATM cell-delineation pass
Check ATM signal pass
Perform ATM OAM segment ping fail
Perform ATM OAM end to end ping fail

seems to keep dropping every 30ish minutes

The ATM fail narrows things down considerably. Once ATM fails all the tests below it will fail eventually although you seemed to catch an ATM failure that hadn't yet propagated to the lower tests.

This could be a modem failure problem, but more than likely AT&T is having trouble with your ATM circuits. Post a [Trouble] thread in AT&T Direct: »/forum/sbcdirect and explain your problem and the ATM failure diagnostics.

I guess you don't have a spare modem to test with? If you did, now would be the time to use it to rule out a problem with your 5100b.
