| Bell Won't Match Rogers' Revised Prices for 10 Mbps
I've been a Bell Bundle / Sympatico customer for a long time, currently on the 7 Mbps profile. I noticed that the 10 Mbps profile was now available in my neighbourhood. I also noticed that Rogers is now offering 10 Mbps for $47 per month, with a $42 per month promotional price for the first 6 months.
So I phone Bell and say I'm interested in the 10 Mbps profile but I expect them to match Rogers' price. After a long fruitless conversation with a sales rep, they wanted to charge me $10 a month more than Rogers is charging. Their excuse is the Bell package includes 100 GB whereas Rogers is 60 GB. Since I use under 20 GB a month, I don't care, but the reps insists this is why the Bell package is worth more.
I was casually thinking of switching my bundle to Rogers, since I'm very interested in the new iPhone, but as a result of this I'm now seriously thinking of switching. I have four Bell services in my bundle and I can't believe they can be this cavalier - I wasn't asking for a special deal - only price matchng.

| reply to ings almost same happened to me. I called them two times for speed and asked for a special price if I sign 12 months contract. No was the flat answer from CRS and even in Bell Direct Forum. When I gave notice two days before they all come up with special pricing for 12 months which I rejected. My usage is never above 25GB. Now I moved back to Rogers by end of month. I am happy with Bell service but unhappy with Bell CSR/Bell Direct forum. |

| interesting. They were able to give me a 6months term on the 7mbps plan. However, I will be cancelling my service in the next couple of days as well as I had just been lied to about my plan (not going thru the details here). I will also switch to rogers and take advantage of the new promo. Cheers! |

| said by kovy :But do you really need 10Mbps? The difference between 7 and 10 is not going to change my life, so "need" is hard to claim. However even 10 is slow by global standards, and I work at home, so yes I want it.
I was in the UK recently and I was shocked to see how much cheaper and faster run of the mill broadband is there. Where Canada once led with broadband deployment it now trails, which is a shame. |

Dave Ings i had all four services with Bell too...about 18 months ago, i switched everything to Rogers...i get the benefits of cable (OnDemand, more "local" stations, etc), internet that is 2.5 times faster and i save $30/month versus what i paid Bell...as well, the few times i called Rogers to fix an issue, it was fixed right away...i fought with Bell on two billing issues for 6 and 8 months, and i was an employee at the time...even when i quit, i had to call them every month for 5 months before they finally released by RRSP's and stocks (they kept giving me the old "We sent out the forms, you didn't get them? I will send them out again, you should get them in a few weeks" line, each month, for 5 months)...they will never see a dime of my hard earned money again.
i'm not saying Rogers is the best thing since sliced bread, but i get more, for less, and from my experience, the service is substantially better (things get fixed right away). -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| reply to ings HeHe. Bell India Call center called again to retain my services. Offered special price for one year contract. Other offer was for Bell Internet Essential 500KBPS.
Don't they get it why service was discontinued in the first place? Why do they call when number is on DNCL? |

1 edit | reply to ings Bell's 10mbps is slower than Rogers 10mbps as well. Bell advertises the sync rate, but neglects to tell the customers that there is about 15% overhead, whereas Rogers compensates for the overheads.
So for example, Bell's 10mbps service will get you between 8.4-8.5mbps actual download speed, whereas Rogers 10mbps service delivers about 9.8-9.9mbps of raw speed. -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! |
