need help connecting to work machine

Hi guys,

Ive been struggling with this for days and so is the network admin where I work.

What I'm trying to do is connect to my work computer from my home computer via VPN and then RDP. The problem I am facing is that whenever I connect (RDP) to my work machine using the machine name, it doesn't resolve to the correct address and dies trying. Whenever I connect using the IP address, it works without issues. I checked the VPN connection's DNS servers and they are correctly setup according to our sysadmin at work, so I'm scratching my head a bit.

Seems that any work machine I ping via the name from my home computer (while the VPN connection is active) resolves to the same IP address [207.69.131.x] and dies trying. However pinging an IP address of a work machine resolves properly.

My setup at home is that I have a DSL modem and a WRT54GL router (running latest version of tomato) currently sitting in front of all the computers which access the internet.

Do I need to add a route in the router or in Windows (each machine) so that it resolves properly?

I'm trying to get this resolved and I'd appreciate any help anyone can throw at me.

Thanks.

Find out what the default DNS server is before and after establishing a VPN session. If they are the same, see if this Microsoft KB article helps (you are using some form of Microsoft Windows, right?).
