Rural internet options

I recently moved to a place about an hour north of toronto and was assured that i could get highspeed. So far i havent been able to find any service providers. Im 15 yrs old and my parents couldn't care less about internet so it's up to me to figure this one out. So far we have tried bell and rogers they don't offer highspeed in our area they only have wimax we ordered bell wimax it's oversold and terrible can't do any gaming on it. We have asked around and everybody around us has highspeed! if you go 2kms ethier way you can get highspeed. From what iv seen our only options are satellite or the rogers rocket stick. I have a playstation and play worldofwarcraft i was wondering what we could try. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!

Your options will probably be line of site or satellite. As twizlar asked, location would be helpful.

This is probably a good place to start: »www.highspeedontario.com/wireles···asp?ID=9

Be prepared to put up an antenna at significant cost. A former coworker lived 500m away from a town that had DSL but it wouldn't reach his home. He needed broadband to work from home because he's stuck there 10 working days a year because of chronic bad weather. He ended up spending $2k upfront on an antenna and gear to get highspeed.

Find a 'neighbour' 2km away that can get highspeed and and is clearly line-of-sight from the roof of your house.

Get the highspeed connection at the neighbour's house and install a wifi router with an outdoor parabolic or sectorized antenna on the roof or a tower pointing towards your house. Install a similar antenna on your roof pointing at the neighbour's place.

With residential wifi gear and 12dBi or better gain antennas you can get 15+ km range as long as you don't have the beam interrupted by trees or have other obstructions in the Fresnel zone of the wave pattern. Use high quality LMR-400 or better cable between the antenna and the router, and keep the pigtails as short as possible to minimize signal losses.

Your connection will degrade in heavy rain or snow conditions - it's just the nature of the frequency that wifi operates on.
