6MBps service but only gets 3 Mbps even after 30 days

Per my subject, I am wondering if DSLExtreme can assist on this.

I have my 6MBps service for about 30 days and I have been monitoring the speed. I only get 3-3.9 MBps at most. I have tried to troubleshoot as follow:

- REMOVE ALL phones and left the DSL ONLY connected
- Changed the router (Netgear WDR-300N and WRT54GS)
- Power Recycled the DSL modem

I have heard from some other customer that experienced the same problem and it turns out that his DSL line was NEVER qualified for 6MBps, but DSLExtreme says yes.

Can DSLExtreme confirm?

Questions like this are pointless without posting modem statistics.

Hi Lanwarrior,

The line is on an Interleave profile and sync'ing at whatever maximum bitrate it can handle based off the line readings. The only thing preventing you from sync'ing at the full 6mb is the signal to the modem. You will want to try your best to isolate the inside wiring and make sure that is not an issue and then go from there. Since you are not being capped the line readings (sync rate) will improve immediately if the signal improves.

Actual Port Rates: 4832 kbps Downstream / 768 kbps Upstream
Margin: 7.0 dB Downstream / 7.0 dB Upstream

Hi Lanwarrior,

The line is also experiencing Line errors. 558 Downstream errors in a 9 minute period. Are you sure you don't have anything connected to that line without a filter like a security alarm? What type of modem are you using? Have you tried a different modem?

Hi Zak,

I am using the DSL modem that was leased from DSL Extreme: D-Link 2320B. I don't have another modem to try on.

For the connection, at this moment I only have 1 phone line used, with a DSL filter splitter connected to it. 2 lines coming in to that splitter: the phone and the DSL modem. No any other connection, like fax or 2nd phone or alarm.

The wiring should be OK because the building I live in is new, only 1.5 years old.

What else can I do to fix this downstream errors?

Hi lanwarrior -

Please give our support team a call at 866-491-7221. We will want to open up a ticket with AT&T to have the line tested and have a phone company technician dispatched out to your location to isolate the line and test. Unfortunately I am currently out of the office and am unable to open that for you.

Thanks
